PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jose Cronos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ali Pasha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cronos comes into the arena with Sandstorm blaring out of the sound system. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Cronos!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 12 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Ali Pasha!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Pasha as Cronos shoots in.

Pasha decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Cronos is not content to let Pasha control the position.
Cronos has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pasha is working away from the top position though.
Pasha tries to pass the half guard into mount. Cronos knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pasha prevents Cronos from standing back up.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Cronos won't allow Pasha to pass to mount.

Cronos wants to control but Pasha is keeping busy.
Pasha has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Cronos stops Pasha from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Pasha tries to control but Cronos wriggling away.

Pasha goes for an armbar but Cronos turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Cronos.

Pasha escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cronos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Pasha is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cronos is aware though and is defending well.
Pasha looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cronos is one step ahead there.

Cronos slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Pasha is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Cronos stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pasha swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cronos throws a hook but Pasha avoids it easily.
Pasha flicks out a counter leg kick but Cronos steps away.
We've been told by Cronos's head coaches at MM eh Academy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pasha throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Cronos on the side of the head.
Pasha scores with the left hand. Cronos knows he should have avoided that one.
Cronos lands a slapping body shot.
Pasha has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cronos. Pasha does a little dance to reset his feet.
Cronos scores with a head kick. Pasha tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Sloppy strikes from Cronos. Those never looked like landing.
Pasha was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Pasha shoots in looking for a takedown but Cronos manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pasha's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Pasha counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cronos's knee momentarily.
Cronos doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jose Cronos will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Cronos moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Pasha tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Pasha ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Pasha misses with a left hand
and Cronos connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Pasha throws a looping overhand right but Cronos ducks down to avoid it.
As Pasha looks to move away, Cronos throws a big counter combo but Pasha just gets out of the way.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Pasha, right into the meat.

Cronos scores with a hook.
Pasha darts in looking for a takedown but Cronos gets double underhooks and turns Pasha into the cage.
Cronos appears to be looking for a big counter.

Cronos bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Pasha attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Cronos thuds a left hand into Pasha's body.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Pasha.
Pasha misses with a double jab.
Cronos is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Pasha.
Pasha let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

Cronos displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Pasha throws out the jab.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Cronos counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Pasha shoots in and drives through. Cronos sprawls well.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Pasha.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cronos is looking to regain half guard here but Pasha keeps moving and retains side control.

Cronos manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

That was a close second round but I would say that Jose Cronos will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Cronos counters with a nice body shot.
Cronos just misses with a punch to the body.
Pasha lands a nice looking body shot.
Pasha shoots in and drives through. Cronos sprawls well.
Pasha misses with a looping left.
Cronos was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Pasha tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cronos swivels and escapes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pasha dives in and grabs Cronos's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cronos pushes down on Pasha's head and hops out.
Jose Cronos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ali Pasha.
Cronos lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pasha circles away quickly and effectively.
Cronos takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Cronos clobbers Pasha with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Cronos throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Pasha.

Cronos's jab looks to have found its range, popping Pasha under the eye.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cronos throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Pasha stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cronos. Pasha does a little dance to reset his feet.
Cronos stalks Pasha and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Pasha's face. Pasha staggers backwards, shaken.

and Pasha counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Pasha seems to have recovered his senses.
Cronos on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Cronos sizes up Pasha with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Pasha moves to clinch but Cronos breaks away
letting Cronos counter with a right hand.
Cronos ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Pasha throws the left hand but Cronos avoids the punch easily.
Pasha tries to clinch but Cronos moves out of range.
Pasha dives in for a single leg takedown but Cronos sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Cronos scores with a jab. Pasha acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Cronos is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pasha can do to turn this around?
Cronos throws a series of punches but Pasha avoids them all with ease.

Pasha displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cronos.

Cronos tries to bum rush Pasha with a series of wild strikes but Pasha uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

That's time! Cronos's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Pasha drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cronos looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cronos looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cronos!


Cronos tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cronos has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Pasha works his way to full guard. Good work.
Cronos wants to control from the top but Pasha keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cronos drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cronos jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Pasha takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Cronos is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Pasha walks into a left hand.
Pasha lands a glancing blow to the side of Cronos's head.
Cronos fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Horrible takedown attempt by Pasha or perhaps it was just good defense by Cronos, which made it look bad.
Pasha moves away from the strike by Cronos.
A little jabbing left from Pasha on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Cronos feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Cronos will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jose Cronos.
I think Cronos has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Our winner, Jose Cronos, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
In defeat, Ali Pasha stepped up to the mic, saying 'He was the better fighter tonight. But I will be back and kick his ASS again. Idiots'.
