PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Zurdur (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brent Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burns comes into a darkened arena with his song building. P.I.M.P. kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tommy Zurdur!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brent Burns!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zurdur throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Burns's waist but Burns gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Zurdur off to one side.

Zurdur attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Burns dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Zurdur seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Burns fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Zurdur looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Burns scores with a hook to the body. Zurdur takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Burns shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Zurdur as he avoids it easily.

Zurdur controls Burns momentarily but Burns frees himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Burns is in close to Zurdur's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Burns has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burns creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Burns working the ground and pound but Zurdur is defending the strikes.

Burns working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Burns remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Zurdur is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Burns is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Zurdur can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Zurdur doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Zurdur throws an overhand right that lands on Burns's shoulder, as Burns tries to avoid the shot.

Burns lands with a hook. Zurdur tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Burns is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Zurdur rather than just go for the knockout.
Zurdur takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Burns takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Burns scores with a hook to the body. Zurdur takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Burns scores with a sloppy right hand. Zurdur should have avoided that one.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Burns lands a really nice looking cross but Zurdur seems unphased.
Zurdur tries to move into range but Burns moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Zurdur fails with the takedown.
Burns connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Zurdur momentarily.

and Burns counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Brent Burns seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown attempt by Burns or perhaps it was just good defense by Zurdur, which made it look bad.

Zurdur looks to land a left hand but Burns moved out of range nicely.
Burns lands with an uppercut that bounces Zurdur off the cage and back into range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Burns throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Zurdur fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Burns to the ground. Zurdur is now in Burns's guard.
Burns bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Zurdur's guard.

Burns stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zurdur swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Burns stays in close to Zurdur's body and controls the position.
Burns has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Burns throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Burns controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Zurdur knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Burns on the ground.

Burns won't allow Zurdur to sweep him here.
Burns is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Burns is pushing down on Zurdur's leg trying to pass to half guard. Zurdur is fighting to maintain full guard but Burns has managed to sneak the leg through.

Brent Burns has got the better of the ground game so far.
Zurdur wants to control but Burns passes into side.

Burns looks up at the clock and then as Zurdur takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Burns smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Burns lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Zurdur down.
Burns slows the pace down.
Burns lands some shots froms side control.
The referee asks Burns politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Burns prefers to stall for the moment though.
Zurdur on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Zurdur tries to get out of the position.
Burns is continuing to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brent Burns showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Zurdur is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Burns is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Burns cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Burns looking to control and managing it successfully.
Burns lands a couple of good shots and Zurdur has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Oooh a big shot gets through from Burns. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Burns is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Zurdur is trying to remain composed but Burns is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
Brent Burns is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Zurdur trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Burns just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Burns lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Zurdur takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Burns keeps control of the position easily here as Zurdur tries to buck him off.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Brent Burns comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Burns has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
