The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Mendes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Northcut swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Mendes tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mendes scores with a leg kick.
Mendes scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Mendes throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Donk. Mendes catches Northcut right on the button with a cross.
Mendes throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A nice combination there by Mendes.
Mendes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

so Northcut counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mendes is wriggling around but Northcut manages to pass to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Northcut lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Northcut moves nicely into side control.
Northcut creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Mendes is looking to get back to his feet here but Northcut is keeping cool and he's managed to take Mendes's back.
Northcut has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mendes looks winded!
Northcut lands punches and elbows.
Northcut lands a shot to the body.
Mendes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Northcut. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Northcut punishes Mendes with strikes from the back mount.
