Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Buck Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Layne Staley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Brown might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Cannibal Corpes - Hammer smashed face. Staley comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Junkhead kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Buck Brown has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Layne Staley!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Winston Alpacca and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown throws out a loose jab but Staley uses good head movement to avoid it.
Staley with the counter takedown but Brown avoids it easily.
Brown throws out a leg kick but Staley moves out of range and Brown only half commits.
Staley feints the counter takedown.
Brown throws a hook but Staley avoids it easily.
Staley is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Brown digs a good body shot into Staley's ribs.
Staley takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Staley slips a straight right by Brown.
And Staley tries to counter it with a takedown but Brown pushes his down on his head and steps out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been hearing reports that Brown has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Staley's coach down at Harambe Remembrance Hall was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Staley's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Staley with the counter takedown but Brown avoids it easily.
Brown throws an overhand right that lands on Staley's shoulder, as Staley tries to avoid the shot.

Brown pushes Staley away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Staley gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Staley tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Staley has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Staley wants to control but Brown is keeping him busy.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Well, if Brown is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Staley changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Brown misses with a left hand

and Staley counters with a shoot takedown. Brown fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Staley postures up.
Staley looking to sit in guard and control but Brown gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Brown stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Staley swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Brown wants to control from the top but Staley keeps moving.

Staley looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Brown passes into half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Brown slips a nice elbow through Staley's hands, connecting with Staley's forehead.
Brown is taking a breather. Staley says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Brown uses his free foot to push down on Staley's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Staley.
Staley wants to control but Brown is having none of it.

Staley manages to reverse the position and now he's in Brown's guard. Nice work there by Staley.

Brown is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Brown has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Staley can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Brown is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Staley asserts his dominance and retains side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Staley has hold of Brown's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Brown tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Staley cranks the arm and Brown screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Brown, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Layne Staley!

A relieved looking Layne Staley thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
