Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nieky Hoeltzker ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patrick McGuire! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McGuire takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Nieky Hoeltzker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McGuire sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. McGuire throws a jab when Hoeltzker was well out of range. We've been informed that McGuire has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. A cross from McGuire lands. McGuire misses with an attempted mid kick.
Hoeltzker throws a push kick but McGuire slaps the foot to one side. McGuire blocks the body kick.
McGuire moves out of range as Hoeltzker throws a body kick.
McGuire rushes Hoeltzker and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch. McGuire doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
I was talking to Hoeltzker 's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Hoeltzker breaks the clinch.
Hoeltzker moves out of range of the body kick. Nice body kick there by McGuire. Hoeltzker scores with a spinning back kick! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hoeltzker gets off balance looking for a body kick and McGuire counters by moving into the clinch. A right handed body shot lands from McGuire.
Hoeltzker wants to stall.
McGuire works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Hoeltzker is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hoeltzker wants to break free but McGuire has control.
A left hand lands to the body for McGuire.
McGuire works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Hoeltzker is looking to break free of the clinch but McGuire has double underhooks. Hoeltzker misses with a punch on the inside.
Hoeltzker is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but McGuire is keeping busy. Hoeltzker struggles to land a body shot inside as McGuire controls his hands.
McGuire breaks the clinch.
Hoeltzker tries to clinch but McGuire moves away and McGuire counters with an inside leg kick. McGuire connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Hoeltzker throws out a loose jab but McGuire uses good head movement to avoid it. Hoeltzker throws a chopping leg kick but McGuire manages to avoid taking any serious damage. It seemed like McGuire was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. McGuire throws a body kick that misses. Hoeltzker throwing a counter right hand but McGuire manages to avoid it. McGuire chopping away at his opponent's legs.
McGuire connects with an inside leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McGuire lands a head shot. McGuire cracks Hoeltzker with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. McGuire moves out of range of the strikes. McGuire moves out of range of the body kick. McGuire tries to counter by closing the distance. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! McGuire gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Hoeltzker . McGuire punishes Hoeltzker 's body with a nice straight punch. A big left from McGuire misses. Hoeltzker fails in his attempt to clinch. McGuire scores with a leg kick.
McGuire throws a wild body kick that Hoeltzker sees coming a mile off. Hoeltzker looks to land a body kick but McGuire moved away. Hoeltzker has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by McGuire. Hoeltzker looks for the body kick but McGuire saw that one coming. Hoeltzker lands a head shot. Hoeltzker on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. McGuire fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Patrick McGuire dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
McGuire connects with a quick right hand that sends Hoeltzker tumbling backwards onto the canvas! As his head bounces into the ropes, it doesn't look good for him beating the count! 3,4,5,6,7 and he's up! No, he's back down again! This one is all over - the referee has called off the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Patrick McGuire! An out of breath Patrick McGuire thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
