PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Barnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gaius Julius Caesar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Caesar has chosen Warriors of the World as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Josh Barnett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Gaius Julius Caesar !
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Damien Edna and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caesar fails in his attempt to clinch.
Caesar misses with a left hand

and Barnett counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Barnett's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Caesar has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Barnett is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Caesar is trying to break free.
Barnett is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Caesar gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Caesar has picked Barnett up - he's going for a ride! Caesar dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Barnett is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Caesar pulls his head out easily.

Caesar wants to take a breather but Barnett is having none of it.
Caesar takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Caesar looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Barnett with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Caesar lands a nice short elbow.

Barnett's coaches at Super SmashBros. have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Barnett is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Caesar 's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Caesar 's back!
Caesar wants to control his opponent's hands but Barnett gets his hands free.

Barnett is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Caesar defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Barnett looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
Barnett has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Barnett is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Caesar has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Caesar wants to control his opponent's hands but Barnett gets his hands free.

Caesar tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Barnett lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Caesar hang on?

Barnett is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Caesar can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Caesar stops Barnett from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Caesar tries to lock up and control but Barnett gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Barnett can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Caesar is looking to escape.

Barnett lands a big shot there that rocks Caesar but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Barnett is in the full mount, landing strikes.


Caesar is rocked!
Barnett softens up his opponent with a couple of shots there and then CRACK! One massive shot lands there and Caesar is out cold! Barnett jumps to his feet and celebrates on the cage with the fans, who are, quite frankly, going absolutely mental!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Josh Barnett!
A very excited looking Josh Barnett made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
