Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Muricio Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kalle Leinio! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Leinio closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Leinio lands in his opponent's guard. Silva trying to keep a closed guard but Leinio is proving a slippery customer.
Leinio postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Leinio doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Leinio manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Silva looking to hit a scissor sweep but Leinio is one step ahead there. Silva is looking for a triangle here but Leinio uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Silva might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Leinio wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silva keeps working. Silva sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Silva is looking to improve his position.
Silva is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Leinio's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Leinio's back! Silva looking for the choke from the back. Silva is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Leinio has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Leinio really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Silva doesn't have the hooks in and Leinio manages to turn into his guard.
Leinio trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Silva could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Silva throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Silva had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Leinio is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Silva Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Leinio's back instead. Silva is breathing heavily. Silva is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Leinio defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Leinio trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Leinio can't escape the position.
Silva has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Leinio! Can he survive? No! He's out! Silva gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
