Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Babatunde Kwame! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deair Shaw! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Dean Styles and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kwame moves into the clinch. Shaw breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kwame shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kwame showed some decent athleticism there. Kwame is taking a breather. Shaw says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Kwame stops Shaw from getting back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kwame is controlling the pace.
Kwame is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kwame is taking a breather. Shaw says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Shaw wants to get back to his feet. Shaw is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kwame scores with a couple of nice shots. Kwame wants to stand up but Shaw has a hold of him and won't allow it. Shaw is trying to stand.
Kwame takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Kwame is figuring out what he wants to do next. Kwame seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Kwame scoring with strikes to the body and head. Kwame not doing much here.
Kwame passes to full mount! Kwame in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kwame lands a couple of good shots and Shaw has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
It looks like Deair Shaw has been cut. Kwame could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Kwame scores with punches and elbows. Shaw looks winded! Kwame is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Shaw with him. Shaw is trying to defend but Kwame has an arm under the chin now! Shaw grimaces and is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Babatunde Kwame!
