PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jeremiah Bethel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Leo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeremiah Bethel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bobby Leo!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Sam Margolis and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bethel shoots for a takedown but Leo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Leo feints the counter takedown.

Leo closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Leo goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Bethel has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Leo but great work by Bethel.

Bethel decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Leo throws a leg kick but Bethel sees it coming and checks it nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bethel looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Leo! But no joy.
Leo wants to land a leg kick but Bethel is out of range.

Leo drives through with a takedown into Bethel's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Leo postures up.
Bethel being controlled here, momentarily.
Leo prevents Bethel from getting back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Leo is stalling in the full guard.
Bethel is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bethel is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Leo is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Leo stays in close to Bethel's body and controls the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nice takedown defense from Leo. No joy for Bethel on that attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bethel shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeremiah Bethel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bethel closes this distance looking for a takedown but Leo circles away.
Leo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Leo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bethel drops down looking for a counter takedown but Leo sprawls and moves away.

Leo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bethel's guard.

Bethel is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Leo presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Bethel is breathing heavily.
Bethel wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Leo avoiding damage.
Bethel lands a hook to the side of the head.

Leo gets a trip takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Bethel could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Bethel is defending against the submission attempts here by Leo.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Leo in particular looking to stall.
Leo is thwarting Bethel's attempts to control the position.
Leo stalling.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Leo stops Bethel from getting back to his feet.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Leo is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Leo blocks a head kick by Bethel.

Leo shoots in and gets a takedown into Bethel's guard.
Leo sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Leo tries to stand but Bethel is controlling from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bobby Leo will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Leo throws a body punch but Bethel moves out of range.
Bethel doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Leo counters with a shoot takedown. Bethel fights it but they end up in guard.

Bethel has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Leo is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Bethel jumps guard but Leo stands there with Bethel around his waist. Bethel gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Leo is trying to force a seperation but Bethel has the dominant position.
Leo tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Leo pulls guard effortlessly.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Leo can do anything to dispel that myth.
Leo is controlling Bethel's posture.
Jeremiah Bethel overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Leo keeping moving, preventing Bethel from controlling successfully.
Bethel might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bethel being controlled here momentarily.
Leo wants to sweep here but Bethel controlling him for the moment.

Leo working for a triangle but Bethel defends it easily.

Leo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bethel can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Leo seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Leo wants to clinch up but Bethel keeps it at a distance.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Leo.

Bethel throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Leo drops Bethel with a beautiful combination! Bethel stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Leo is looking for the KO!


Bethel is rocked!


It looks like Jeremiah Bethel has been cut.
Leo batters Bethel with a massive right followed by a huge left! Bethel is out on his feet looking like a zombie as Leo lands a final crushing right hand to drop Bethel to the mat with a gruesome thud! Leo is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Bobby Leo!
