The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Almeida feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Lane preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Lane is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Almeida wants to control from the top but Lane keeps moving.

Almeida is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Almeida trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Almeida looking to sit in guard and control but Lane gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Almeida utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Almeida manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Lane manages to get himself to full guard.

Almeida passes Lane's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Lane is refusing to be controlled, as Almeida sits in half guard.
Almeida thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lane's head.

Almeida is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Lane is trying to maintain the position but Almeida is very close to passing his half guard.

Almeida is taking a breather. Lane says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Almeida working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Lane really is a fat lump.
Almeida wants to free his trapped foot but Lane is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Still in half guard, Almeida seems content to control.
