PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Simon Marcus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Kinji (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos Kinji told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Simon Marcus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 46 - 29 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Carlos Kinji!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kinji throws a wild body kick that Marcus sees coming a mile off.
Marcus changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Marcus shoots in for a takedown but Kinji shows good takedown defense.
Marcus fails in his attempt to clinch.
Marcus misses with a shot to the body
and Kinji counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A combination from Kinji does no damage.
Kinji wants to slow Marcus down by chopping away at his legs.

Marcus closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kinji circles away.

Carlos Kinji is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kinji loads up on a big right hand but Marcus slips the punch.
Marcus tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kinji defends well and Marcus ends up having to push Kinji into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Marcus postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kinji is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Marcus, into his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marcus wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Marcus has Kinji pulled in close to control his posture.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Marcus is on top in guard.

Marcus shoots for a double leg takedown but Kinji sprawls well. He's pushed Marcus's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kinji swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Kinji is pushing Marcus up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Kinji has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Marcus off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kinji leaves Marcus with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Marcus's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Kinji connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Marcus scrambles back to his feet.

Kinji throws a leg kick which misses Marcus's front leg but catches the back leg as Marcus tries to avoid it.

Marcus closes the distance and clinches up with Kinji, looking for a takedown. Marcus pushes Kinji against the cage but Kinji circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Marcus throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kinji's waist but Kinji gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Marcus off to one side.

Marcus will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kinji throws out a counter right but Marcus avoids it with no problem.

It looks like Simon Marcus has been cut.
Kinji stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Carlos Kinji showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Kinji is looking to clinch but Marcus is avoiding it.
Kinji has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Oh Marcus is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Kinji clinches.
Kinji throws a punch but it's blocked by Marcus.

A fake to the body and Kinji gets the Thai clinch. He wastes no time and tries to connect with knees to the head. This is dangerous for Marcus! He should get out! Another devastating knee and Marcus falls head first to the ground. It's all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:09 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Knee). Carlos Kinji!
Carlos Kinji was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
