Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Darrick Rodriquez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Newman! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Atkins and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Newman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Newman swings around for an armbar but Rodriquez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Newman's guard. Rodriquez is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rodriquez postures up in Newman's guard and throws a big left but Newman blocks it. Newman wants to get back to his feet but Rodriquez is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Newman is looking to stand back up but Rodriquez counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Newman. Rodriquez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Newman defends it well. Newman trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
That's one minute gone in the round. Rodriquez working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Rodriquez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Newman is wriggling around trying to escape.
Rodriquez is working for a guillotine from mount but Newman frees his head quite easily.
Rodriquez landing shots from mount. Newman wants to get back to his feet but in bucking up he's left an arm hanging out! Rodriquez has locked onto it and has pulled off a slick armbar! Newman taps furiously! This one is all over!
