Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Outlaw Hardy! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Abdul The Refugee! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Russell Pearce and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hardy lands with a cross.
It looks like Abdul The Refugee has been cut. The Refugee bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. The Refugee is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. The Refugee throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hardy's waist but Hardy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing The Refugee off to one side. Hardy throws a half hearted mid kick. Outlaw Hardy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The Refugee takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. The Refugee has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. The Refugee looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hardy is fending him off so far but The Refugee persists. Nope, Hardy circles away and we're back to standing. Hardy appears to be looking for a big counter. Hardy misses with a body kick. The Refugee feints the counter takedown. Hardy dips to his left and cracks The Refugee with an uppercut! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A looping hook to the body misses from Hardy. The Refugee does a little dance to reset his feet. Hardy misses with a body shot.
And The Refugee tries to counter it with a takedown but Hardy pushes his down on his head and steps out. The Refugee throws a front kick that sends Hardy stumbling back into the cage. The Refugee with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
That's one minute gone in the round. The Refugee with a lazy takedown attempt and The Refugee takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Outlaw Hardy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Abdul The Refugee. Hardy throws a hook but The Refugee avoids it easily. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Hardy. Outlaw Hardy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Hardy attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Hardy cracks The Refugee with a right hand to the side of the head. Hardy cracks The Refugee with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! The Refugee falls to his knees and Hardy doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Outlaw Hardy! Outlaw Hardy retains his welterweight title! After winning the bout, Outlaw Hardy thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
