PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Spencer Macleod (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elvis Swan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Elvis Swan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Spencer Macleod!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Elvis Swan!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Bart Greer and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swan shoots in for a double leg but Macleod sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Swan tries for a takedown but Macleod sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
It looked like Macleod was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Swan.
No luck for Swan with that takedown attempt.
Spencer Macleod has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Elvis Swan.
Swan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Macleod shoots in and gets a takedown into Swan's guard.
Macleod slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Macleod stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Swan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Swan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Swan has Macleod pulled in close to control his posture.
Macleod passes Swan's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Macleod stops Swan from getting back to his feet.
Macleod is keen to just control but Swan is a slippery customer.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Macleod stuffs the takedown.
Swan shoots in and drives through. Macleod sprawls well.
Macleod fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Swan looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Macleod misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Swan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Macleod wants to get back to his feet but Swan is dominant here and he's now got Macleod's back!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Swan controlling well, preventing Macleod from escaping the position.
Swan thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Swan has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Macleod has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Swan trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Macleod doesn't escape.

Swan looking to break Macleod's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Macleod remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Swan will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Macleod is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Swan is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Macleod has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
What can Macleod do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Macleod leaves Swan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Swan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Macleod but Macleod pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Swan throws the kick towards the body but Macleod avoids it.
Macleod closes this distance looking for a takedown but Swan circles away.
Macleod stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Swan.
Spencer Macleod is winning the standup battle so far.
Swan lands a jab-cross combination.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Swan closes the distance and clinches up with Macleod, looking for a takedown. Swan pushes Macleod against the cage but Macleod circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Swan has managed to clinch.

Swan wants a takedown but no success here.

Macleod drags the fight down to the ground.
Swan throws a big elbow that misses.
Swan controlling from the top position.
Swan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Swan drops back looking for a leg! Macleod is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Macleod manages to kick Swan off! Swan jumps back into Macleod's guard.
Swan stands and throws Macleod's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Swan working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
An elbow from Swan crashes against the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Elvis Swan will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Swan tries to land a front kick but Macleod steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Macleod tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Swan was well out of range. Poor timing from Macleod.

Macleod can't break the clinch.
Macleod on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Swan is stalling here.
Macleod fails to pull guard.

Swan pulls guard successfully.
Swan trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Macleod tries to free his leg and advance position but Swan is retaining full guard.

Swan pulls Macleod in close to prevent any damage.

Swan pushes Macleod off and gets back to his feet.

Macleod tries to sprawl but Swan drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Swan decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Swan is defended easily by Macleod.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Swan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Macleod defends well and Swan ends up having to push Macleod into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Swan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Macleod avoids it really well and circles away.
Macleod lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Macleod.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Swan dives in and grabs Macleod's left leg, looking for a takedown. Macleod pushes down on Swan's head and hops out.

Macleod gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Swan to score an easy takedown into full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Elvis Swan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Swan has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
