PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between JR Adams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Niten Dōraku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Adams comes into the arena with 'Looking For The Stone' by Dry Branch Fire Squad blaring out of the sound system. Dōraku is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Ides Of Light - Jucifer. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Niten Dōraku enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, JR Adams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Niten Dōraku!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Adams fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A slow jab from Dōraku misses its intended target.
Adams closes the distance and clinches up with Dōraku, looking for a takedown. Adams pushes Dōraku against the cage but Dōraku circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Adams closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Dōraku quickly recovers to half guard.

Adams is trying to work for a kimura but Dōraku is defending well.

Adams uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dōraku.

Adams fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Dōraku to the ground. Adams is now in Dōraku's guard.
Dōraku is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Adams might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Adams tries to free his leg and advance position but Dōraku is retaining full guard.

Dōraku told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Dōraku throws a hook to the side of Adams's head but Adams sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Dōraku defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Adams.
Adams slips a jab from Dōraku.
Adams is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dōraku can do to turn this around?

Adams drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

It seemed like Dōraku was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Adams jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dōraku walks away with a smile on his face. Adams gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Dōraku thuds a left hand into Adams's body.
Adams shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dōraku pinned against the cage. Dōraku gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Adams shoots for a double leg takedown but Dōraku sprawls well. He's pushed Adams's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Adams moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.


It looks like JR Adams has been cut.
Dōraku is looking to slow Adams down with leg kicks.
Dōraku is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Adams.

Adams shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dōraku is trying to defend but Adams finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Niten Dōraku showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Adams closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Adams is looking for a kimura but Dōraku is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Adams to get the leverage.
Adams is stalling here. Dōraku is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Adams seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Dōraku has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Dōraku is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Adams will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Adams throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dōraku's waist but Dōraku gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Adams off to one side.

Dōraku throws a lazy right hand but Adams sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Dōraku counters with a head kick. That will keep Adams thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Adams shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dōraku as he jumps to the side.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dōraku slaps away a takedown attempt from Adams, before circling back to the center of the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Niten Dōraku comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dōraku has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
