PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Quincy Zheng (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buddhist Extremist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Quincy Zheng!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Buddhist Extremist!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zheng fails in his attempt to clinch.
Despite the aggression on Extremist's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Extremist throws a series of punches but Zheng moves out of range.

Zheng shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Extremist is trying to defend but Zheng finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Zheng tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Zheng is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Extremist is trying to stand up here but Zheng is controlling him well.

Zheng is working for a submission of some sort.

Extremist looks like he's trying to stand up.
Zheng works his way into side control.
Zheng advances to mount.
Zheng with shots to the head and body - Extremist looks very uncomfortable down there.
Extremist is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Zheng trying to control but Extremist is having none of it.
Extremist is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Zheng wants to finish this one by submission but Extremist is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Zheng.

Zheng has hold of Extremist's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Extremist manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Extremist is trying to stand.

Extremist takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Zheng is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Sloppy strikes from Extremist. Those never looked like landing.
Zheng shoots in but no luck this time.

Zheng gets a takedown into half guard.

Zheng is trying to work for a kimura but Extremist is defending well.
Zheng stops Extremist from getting back to his feet.

Zheng is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Extremist is just riding it out for now. Zheng eventually gives up the hold.
Zheng working over Extremist with some ground and pound. Extremist looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Zheng is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Extremist doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Zheng.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Extremist won't allow Zheng to pass to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Extremist stuffs the takedown attempt from Zheng. Zheng gets slowly back to his feet.
Extremist lands a nice hook to Zheng's body. Zheng takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Zheng throws a head kick that misses
and Extremist counters with a left and a right that stings Zheng.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Extremist slaps away a takedown attempt from Zheng, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Zheng avoids a punch combination nicely.

Extremist getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

Zheng forces Extremist back against the cage and clinches.

Zheng jumps guard.
Zheng is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Extremist has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Zheng is proving hard to escape from.
Extremist must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Zheng is trying to control the position but Extremist postures up.

Extremist wants to stand but Zheng is controlling his posture from full guard.
Extremist is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Extremist gets to his feet. Zheng looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Zheng tries to close the distance and clinch but Extremist swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Zheng looks to clinch
and Extremist counters with a left and a right that stings Zheng.
Zheng takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Zheng shoots and misses
and Extremist counters with a stiff right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Quincy Zheng. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zheng tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Extremist manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Extremist lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Zheng fails in his attempt to clinch.
Extremist swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Zheng changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Extremist tries to avoid it but Zheng manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Extremist to the ground. Extremist escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Zheng is defended easily by Extremist.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Zheng throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Extremist tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Zheng is in Extremist's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Extremist wants to stand up but Zheng is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Extremist is working an open guard so Zheng takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Extremist lands a really nice looking cross but Zheng seems unphased.
Zheng's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Extremist connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Zheng scrambles back to his feet.
Extremist scores with a decent looking hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Buddhist Extremist showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Quincy Zheng is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Extremist cracks Zheng with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Buddhist Extremist seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Zheng is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Extremist's half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Zheng connects with a nice short shot to Extremist's temple.

Zheng is working for a kimura but Extremist is defending it quite comfortably.

Extremist wants to get back to his feet.
Zheng lands strikes from half guard.
Zheng drops an elbow to the side of Extremist's head.
Zheng prevents Extremist from standing back up.
Quincy Zheng overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Zheng is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Extremist defends it well.

Zheng is trying to work for a kimura but Extremist is defending well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Zheng is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Zheng is looking for a kimura but Extremist is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Zheng to get the leverage.
Extremist really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Zheng. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Extremist is looking to escape.

Zheng stands up out of the half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Extremist closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Zheng doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
A shot to the liver by Extremist. Beautiful body shot.
Extremist connects with a jab.
Extremist throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Zheng.
Extremist has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Extremist throws a series of punches but Zheng avoids them all with ease.
Zheng drops down looking for a counter takedown but Extremist sprawls and moves away.
Zheng has his takedown stuffed
and Zheng takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Zheng gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Extremist fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Extremist cracks Zheng with an open hand slap.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Zheng tries to score a power double leg takedown but Extremist sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Zheng somewhat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Extremist lands a two punch combo.

And that's the end of the fight!
Buddhist Extremist comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Extremist has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
