Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Samak Tiyapairat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tiyapairat comes to the ring accompanied by Ram Muay. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
36 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Samak Tiyapairat! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Hughes! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tiyapairat darts in and clinches Hughes up against the ropes. Tiyapairat tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Hughes avoids it. Tiyapairat's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Tiyapairat throws a head kick but Hughes moves out of range.
Tiyapairat is looking to clinch. Hughes takes a kick to the side of the head. Tiyapairat throws a right hand that misses
and Hughes counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Tiyapairat misses with a straight right. Hughes blocks a head kick by Tiyapairat.
Hughes cracks Tiyapairat with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes. Tiyapairat misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Hughes counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
It looks like Samak Tiyapairat has been cut. Hughes steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tiyapairat. Samak Tiyapairat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hughes scores with a decent looking hook. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hughes looks to land a right hand but Tiyapairat moved out of range. Tiyapairat tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Hughes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Tiyapairat thuds a left hand into Hughes's body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tiyapairat tries to clinch there but Hughes circles away.
Tiyapairat misses with an uppercut. Hughes saw that one coming. Tiyapairat rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Tiyapairat takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Tiyapairat is rocked! Tiyapairat looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Tiyapairat looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Tiyapairat throws out a loose jab but Hughes uses good head movement to avoid it. Hughes tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Tiyapairat throws a head kick but Hughes moves out of range.
Hughes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tiyapairat sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hughes somewhat. Tiyapairat misses with a jab, cross combination.

Tiyapairat wants to clinch up but Hughes keeps it at a distance. Tiyapairat swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Hughes works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Oh Tiyapairat is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tiyapairat closes the distance but Hughes moves to the side and Hughes counters with a massive hook, right on the button! He's out cold! Damn, that was naaaaaasty! Hopefully he'll be OK.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Matt Hughes! After winning the bout, Matt Hughes thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
