Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tom Haverford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Artur Kalashnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Artur Kalashnikov! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Valeri Chadov and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Haverford with a hook. Haverford chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Kalashnikov avoids a low kick by using good footwork. That kick from Haverford tenderised Kalashnikov's leg. Kalashnikov is trying to keep his angry face on. Haverford lands with a thumping leg kick.
Tom Haverford seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Haverford shoots in and bounces Kalashnikov off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kalashnikov working for a triangle but Haverford defends it easily.
Haverford throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kalashnikov works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Kalashnikov looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Haverford has picked Kalashnikov up and slammed him! Kalashnikov can't keep hold of the triangle and Haverford manages to pass to side control! Kalashnikov wants to get back to his feet. Kalashnikov is trying to control Haverford 's posture but Haverford avoids it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kalashnikov is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Haverford looks up at the clock and then as Kalashnikov takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Haverford smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Kalashnikov is looking to regain half guard here but Haverford keeps moving and retains side control. Haverford tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Haverford has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Kalashnikov is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Haverford asserts his dominance and retains side control. Kalashnikov takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Haverford scores with punches from side control. Haverford looks up at the clock and then as Kalashnikov takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Haverford smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Haverford is trying to get an arm triangle but Kalashnikov is defending well. Haverford lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Kalashnikov is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Haverford is controlling him well. Kalashnikov tries to buck Haverford off but Haverford is having none of it. Haverford working the ground and pound from side control. Kalashnikov is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Haverford 's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Kalashnikov is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Haverford pulls his head out easily. Kalashnikov looks winded! Kalashnikov actively working from the bottom here. It looks like he's just sitting there. Haverford decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Haverford clinches up with Kalashnikov and pushes him back against the cage. Haverford stalls. Kalashnikov is refusing to be controlled, as Haverford sits in half guard. Kalashnikov wants to improve his position but Haverford is controlling well.

Tom Haverford dominated that round. The cut man is working on Tom Haverford 's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Haverford shoots in and gets a takedown into Kalashnikov's guard. Kalashnikov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Kalashnikov has his foot on Haverford 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Haverford works his way back into a safe position though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Haverford distracts Kalashnikov with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Kalashnikov throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Haverford escapes and throws Kalashnikov's legs to the side, diving into side control! Haverford cracks Kalashnikov with a big right hand but Kalashnikov just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kalashnikov wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Haverford working the ground and pound. Haverford cracks Kalashnikov with a big elbow. Kalashnikov manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Kalashnikov is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Haverford tries to roll over but Kalashnikov keeps him under control. Haverford is pressing down on Kalashnikov's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Haverford seems keen to control Kalashnikov's posture. Haverford preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Kalashnikov wants to pass the guard but Haverford is keeping the position. Haverford trying to control the position here. Kalashnikov throws a big right hand that misses. Haverford uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Haverford will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice straight punches there by Haverford . You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Haverford . Haverford throws a body shot but no joy. Haverford throws a quick inside leg kick. Haverford connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Haverford tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Kalashnikov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Kalashnikov has momentary wrist control but Haverford slips an elbow through the middle. Haverford is pushing down on Kalashnikov's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kalashnikov is fighting to maintain full guard but Haverford has managed to sneak the leg through. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Haverford connects with a nice short shot to Kalashnikov's temple. Haverford is looking to advance position but Kalashnikov won't allow it. Kalashnikov looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Kalashnikov looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Tom Haverford overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Kalashnikov is trying to improve his position.
