Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mcgregor Conor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jordan Kandle! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Bruno Lombardi and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Conor will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Nice takedown defense from Conor. No joy for Kandle on that attempt. Kandle looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Conor leaves Kandle with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Mcgregor Conor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jordan Kandle. Conor fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kandle to the ground. Conor is now in Kandle's guard. Conor is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Kandle really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Conor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Conor wants to pass the guard but Kandle is keeping the position. Our spies down at at Heart Cave (8 elites, 4 double-elites, 1 triple) inform us that Kandle has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Conor really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Kandle being controlled here, momentarily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Conor throwing strikes from guard but Kandle blocks nicely. Conor trying to control the position from guard on top but Kandle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Conor avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Conor scoring with some ground and pound. Conor stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kandle swivels though and keeps the full guard. Kandle is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Conor sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kandle's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Conor lands strikes from half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Conor not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Conor looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Conor lands a nice short elbow. Kandle taking some punishment here, with Conor in his half guard. Conor lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Kandle is in trouble now - Conor has advanced to mount! Conor has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kandle is trying desperately to improve position. Conor will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Conor misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Conor wants to control the pace but Kandle is squirming around nicely. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Conor cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Conor trying to control but he's not successful this time. Conor looking to finish Kandle with some ground and pound. This is bad for Kandle! Kandle is looking to get to half guard. Conor controlling the position easily from mount. Conor with a couple of short strikes. Kandle can't escape the position.
Conor looking to control but Kandle is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Kandle keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Conor can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kandle is looking to escape. Conor landing strikes from the mount. Conor controlling his opponent. Kandle tries to hold on but Conor postures up. Conor trying to control but he's not successful this time. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Conor throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Kandle because Conor loaded up on that one. Kandle has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Conor's lack of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mcgregor Conor dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Conor shoots in but no luck this time. Kandle stuffs the takedown attempt from Conor. Conor gets slowly back to his feet. Kandle shoots in and bounces Conor off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Conor is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Conor isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Kandle stacks Conor on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Kandle! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Conor is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Conor actively working from the bottom here. Kandle wants to take a breather but Conor is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kandle is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Kandle seems to be working for a kimura but Conor defends the submission attempt. The fighters are battling for position here. Conor manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Conor has his feet on Kandle's thighs here. He's pushed Kandle off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Kandle screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
