Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Alex Cowell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mongkut Sakchai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mongkut Sakchai will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Cowell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mongkut Sakchai!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cowell throws a body punch but Sakchai moves out of range.
Sloppy strikes from Cowell. Those never looked like landing.
Cowell misses the shot to the body.

Sakchai gets a clinch.
Cowell misses with a body punch.
Good body shot from Cowell.
Sakchai is looking for a takedown.
Cowell is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Sakchai manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Cowell throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sakchai works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cowell throws a big right hand that misses.
Cowell loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've been hearing good reports from Cowell's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Cowell keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sakchai's head.
Cowell wants to control from the top but Sakchai keeps moving.
Cowell working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Sakchai controlling the position.
Sakchai working a defensive guard but Cowell manages to pass into side control anyway.
Who's going to make the next move?
Sakchai tries to improve position but can't.
Sakchai takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
You can see the frustration on Sakchai's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cowell looks up at the clock and then as Sakchai takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Cowell smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sakchai is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Cowell wants to take a breather but Sakchai is having none of it.
Cowell passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Sakchai!
Sakchai can't escape the position.
Sakchai reaches up and holds on to Cowell to control the position.
Sakchai is trying to escape the mount.
Cowell is in the full mount, landing strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sakchai is squirming around, avoiding Cowell's attempts to control the action.
Cowell raining down hammerfists from mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Cowell cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Sakchai tries to hold on but Cowell pushes him away.
Sakchai is squirming around, avoiding Cowell's attempts to control the action.
Cowell landing strikes from the mount.
Cowell lands a nice shot to the head.
Cowell fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Cowell has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Sakchai's face.
Sakchai tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sakchai gets back to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cowell works his way into full mount!
Cowell looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Cowell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Cowell lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Cowell breaks from Sakchai's wrist control and lands an elbow.


Sakchai is rocked!
Cowell lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Sakchai is still in real trouble! Can Cowell finish him?
Oooooh, big shot lands for Cowell! Sakchai is hurt baaadly! Cowell is firing away with more strikes - Sakchai is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Cowell!
Alex Cowell seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
