Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrew Faber! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chernobyk Citybus! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Valeri Chadov and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Faber closes the distance and pushes Citybus back into the cage. Faber looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Citybus tries to land knees in the clinch but Faber avoids the damage to the body. Faber drags the fight down to the ground.
Citybus controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Citybus's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Citybus makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Faber has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Citybus landing some decent shots from guard. Faber being controlled here, momentarily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Citybus keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Faber's head. Citybus is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. It looks like Citybus might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Citybus lands a couple of decent looking shots. Citybus's corner is telling him to maintain position. Citybus postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Citybus is working Faber over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Citybus not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Citybus is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Citybus scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Citybus has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Citybus is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Citybus with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Faber is rocked! Citybus thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Citybus drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Citybus seems to have locked his on tight now - Faber screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Citybus, as he picks up the win!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Chernobyk Citybus! Chernobyk Citybus was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
