PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duran's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Seven devils - Florence. Johnson has chosen Miami Vice Theme Song as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Calvin Duran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Don Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Johnson misses with an uppercut.
Johnson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Duran sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Johnson feints and as Duran raises his hands in defense, Johnson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Johnson won't allow Duran to get back to his feet.
Duran being controlled here, momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duran is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson stands and throws Duran's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Duran trying to remain calm as Johnson controls from the top position.

Duran is trying to get back to his feet.

Johnson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Duran has escaped the position, nice work there.
Johnson prevents Duran from escaping the position.
Johnson wants to control but Duran is keeping him busy.
Johnson advances nicely into full mount.
Johnson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Duran is looking to escape.
Johnson controlling the pace for now.
Let's hope that Johnson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Duran is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Johnson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Duran is looking to escape.

Duran is trying to stand.

Johnson has control of Duran's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Duran regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Johnson looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Duran is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Duran is controlling an arm, preventing Johnson from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Duran has given up his back. Will we see Johnson going for some submissions?
Johnson is riding his opponent, not letting Duran buck him off.
Duran trying to get back to his feet but Johnson is in full control for now.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Duran fending off the submission attempt from Johnson.
Will Johnson go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

What can Duran do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Duran is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Johnson gets his way!

Duran is having to fend off submission attempts from Johnson, who is looking to sink in the choke. Johnson doesn't have the hooks in though and Duran manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Duran decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Johnson, up you get!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Johnson dominated that round.
That's time! Duran's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Johnson looks to throw the jab but Duran is out of range.

Johnson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Johnson is controlling the pace.

Johnson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Duran has managed to free his arm - good work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson works his way into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Duran keeps working.
Duran wants to get back to his feet.
Duran stops Johnson from passing to mount.
Johnson trying to control the position but Duran is working away.
Johnson moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Duran wants to get back to his feet.

Johnson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Duran knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Johnson prevents Duran from escaping the position.
Johnson wants to control for a moment but Duran uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Johnson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Johnson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Duran sees it coming and defends easily.
Duran is trying to stand up here but Johnson is controlling him well.
Well, if Johnson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Duran wants to get back to his feet.
Johnson wants to pass the guard but Duran is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Johnson maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Duran could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Johnson has cracked it and Duran is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Johnson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Don Johnson!
Don Johnson decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
