PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Billy Marques (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clubber Bull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marques comes into the arena with Raining Blood blaring out of the sound system. Bull has chosen Rage as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Billy Marques!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Clubber Bull!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bull changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Marques tries to avoid it but Bull manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Marques to the ground. Marques escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Marques lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Bull at a distance.
Marques connects with a good right hand that stumbles Bull. Bull circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Bull has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bull there as he acknowledges the shot.
Marques changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Bull slips under a jab.
Bull has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Marques finds it's way round the side to connect with Bull's head.
Marques looks to score with a jab to the body but Bull is just out of range.
Billy Marques seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marques fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bull manages to avoid it.
A little jabbing left from Bull on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

and Marques cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Bull tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Marques swivels and escapes.
As Bull tries to get set, Marques tries to push him back and clinch up but Bull manages to avoid the attempt.
Billy Marques has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clubber Bull.
Marques keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Bull circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bull's coach down at MM eh Academy was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Bull's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Marques looks to score with a jab to the body but Bull is just out of range.
Bull walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Bull dives in and grabs Marques's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marques pushes down on Bull's head and hops out.
Bull circles away from the clinch attempt.
It seemed like Bull was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Marques lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Bull at a distance.
Bull takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Marques swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Marques punishes Bull's body with a nice straight punch.
Marques slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Marques lands a two punch combo.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Marques lands an overhand right.

Bull changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Marques looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Marques really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Marques pushes Bull away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Bull gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Bull throwing strikes but Marques manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Bull manages to get back to half guard.
Bull is not content to let Marques control the position.
Bull has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bull wants to improve his position but Marques is controlling well.
Bull is looking to control Marques's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bull avoid being mounted?

Bull tries to hold on but Marques pushes him away.
Marques takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Bull is desperately trying to improve his position but Marques has a good base and remains in mount.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Marques throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Marques stuffs the takedown.

Bull closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bull lands in his opponent's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bull accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bull postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bull distracts Marques with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Marques dips to his left and cracks Bull with an uppercut!

Marques just misses with a punch to the body.
Bull tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Marques swivels and escapes.
Marques goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Marques wants to clinch.
Marques throws a shot from downtown. Bull moves away and avoids it.
Marques slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
A nice combination there by Marques.

Marques moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Marques lands a two punch combo.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Marques throws out a loose jab but Bull uses good head movement to avoid it.
Marques throws a body shot but no joy.
Bull looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Marques is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bull can do to turn this around?

Bull is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Bull is looking to work some ground and pound but Marques has wrist control.
Bull postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Bull manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Marques manages to get himself to full guard.

Marques has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Bull has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Bull drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Marques gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Billy Marques has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clubber Bull.
Bull drops down looking for an ankle pick but Marques pulls his leg out and moves away.
Bull fails with the takedown
and Marques counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Marques throws a right and a left that Bull avoids nicely.
Bull tries for a takedown but Marques sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The fight stays on the outside here - Marques looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Bull fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Marques to the ground. Bull is now in Marques's guard.

Billy Marques is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Bull is working Marques over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Oh Marques is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Bull gets to his feet and stands over Marques, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Marques felt that one! Bull unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Marques from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Clubber Bull!
In his post fight interview, Clubber Bull started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
Billy Marques was interviewed post fight and said 'I would like to apologize to my fans for what they witnessed here tonight. I am A LOT better than what you all seen here, trust me, the next time I step inside this octagon, you will witness something you've never seen before. MARK MY WORDS!'.
