PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kelvin Bang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taylor Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kelvin Bang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Taylor Powell!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Sergei Dronov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bang tries to clinch but Powell moves out of range.

Bang drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Bang misses with the ground and pound.
Powell is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Bang is controlling him well.
Powell felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Bang trying to control the action but Powell is working from the bottom.

Bang thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Powell wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bang looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Powell is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Powell explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Powell connects with a solid leg kick.
Powell connects with a body shot.
Bang displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Powell throws out the jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Powell stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Powell wants it to stay on the feet.
Powell looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Bang looks for a takedown but Powell sprawls well.
Bang shoots in for a takedown but Powell shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A little jabbing left from Powell on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kelvin Bang. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bang looks to land a combination but Powell avoids it well.
Bang takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
A good leg kick by Powell.
Bang shoots in for a double leg but Powell sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bang shoots in for a takedown but Powell shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Bang on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Powell fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
The fighters circling - Bang throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Bang takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Powell defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bang.
Powell feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Bangs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Powell's jab looks to have found its range, popping Bang under the eye.
A head kick misses from Bang.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bang throws a body kick that misses
and Powell counters with a stiff right hand.
Bang looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Powell appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Bang is breathing heavily.
Powell will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Bang pivots, looking for a leg kick but Powell is out of range and Bang settles back down.
Powell leaves Bang with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Powell jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Bang fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Powell looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Nice cross by Powell.


Bang is rocked!
Bang with a poor takedown
and Powell counters with a huge overhand right that connects right on the temple, sending him crumpling, face first to the floor! This one is all over! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Taylor Powell!
Taylor Powell tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
