Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cruz Ellis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jonathan Washington! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Washington darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Ellis gets full guard. Washington stands and throws Ellis's legs to the side, diving into side control. Washington tries to stand but Ellis controls the position and pulls Washington into his guard. Washington throws a big right hand that misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ellis is controlling Washington's posture. Washington wants to pass the guard but Ellis is keeping the position. Washington looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Washington must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Washington trying to control the position from guard on top but Ellis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ellis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Washington is one step ahead there. Ellis keeping moving, preventing Washington from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Washington is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ellis is working an open guard so Washington takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. A head kick misses from Washington. Ellis moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Ellis gets tackled into the cage by Washington. Washington maintains the clinch.

Washington darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Ellis manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Washington wants to control from the top but Ellis keeps moving. Ellis controlling Washington's posture. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Washington with a flurry of punches that miss. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Washington tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Washington throws a sloppy head kick and Ellis moves out of range easily. Jonathan Washington seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Washington shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ellis manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Ellis pulls Washington in to control the position. Ellis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Ellis keeping moving, preventing Washington from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ellis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Washington lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Washington. Washington scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Washington is looking to take a break and control but Ellis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The fighters are battling for position here. Ellis manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Washington forces Ellis back against the cage and clinches. Washington jumps guard and drags Ellis to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Washington looking to control.
Washington wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Ellis is now in half guard. Ellis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ellis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Washington is just riding it out for now. Ellis eventually gives up the hold. Ellis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Washington doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ellis. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jonathan Washington showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
