Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Williams! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alexein Rakotonandrasana! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Williams shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rakotonandrasana's guard. Williams is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Rakotonandrasana is looking for a triangle but Williams pushes his legs off easily.
Williams controls from within his opponent's guard. Rakotonandrasana looking for a guillotine here but Williams defends easily.
Williams has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Rakotonandrasana has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Williams can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Williams wants to pass the guard but Rakotonandrasana is keeping the position. Williams avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Williams postures up and lands a big shot to Rakotonandrasana's brow.
It looks like Alexein Rakotonandrasana has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Williams distracts Rakotonandrasana with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
That has opened up Alexein Rakotonandrasana's cut even more. Rakotonandrasana can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Williams controls the pace. Williams wants to control from the top but Rakotonandrasana keeps moving. Williams tries to free his leg and advance position but Rakotonandrasana is retaining full guard. Williams knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rakotonandrasana on the ground. Rakotonandrasana has his foot on Williams's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Williams works his way back into a safe position though. Williams working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rakotonandrasana's head.
The cut above Alexein Rakotonandrasana's eye is starting to cause him problems now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rakotonandrasana working for a triangle but Williams defends it easily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Williams distracts Rakotonandrasana with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Alexein Rakotonandrasana's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Alexein Rakotonandrasana's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Matt Williams! Matt Williams is the new super heavyweight champion! After winning the bout, Matt Williams thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
