Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Murdock! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Patrico Santos Diaz! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santos Diaz tries to move into range but Murdock moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
It looks like Patrico Santos Diaz has been cut. Santos Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Murdock as he jumps to the side. Murdock lands an overhand right. Santos Diaz gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Murdock. Murdock swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Santos Diaz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Murdock. Santos Diaz on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The fighters circling - Murdock throws out the jab but it was never going to land. As Murdock backs off Santos Diaz throws a huge counter combo but Murdock manages to avoid it all. Santos Diaz slips a straight right by Murdock. Santos Diaz moves out of range of the strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santos Diaz keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Murdock. Jack Murdock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Murdock connects with a right hand. Santos Diaz shakes it off. Jack Murdock is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Some wild striking there from Santos Diaz.
Santos Diaz is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Murdock throws a looping overhand right but Santos Diaz ducks down to avoid it. We've been told by Murdock's head coaches at The Cooker that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Murdock misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Santos Diaz.
Murdock circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Santos Diaz to the canvas! Santos Diaz doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Murdock keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
