Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Edward Lynch! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vitalij Puchkov! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lynch has taken the fight to the clinch.
Puchkov has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Lynch after a bit of a struggle. Puchkov changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Lynch fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Puchkov fails with the takedown and Lynch counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Lynch. Edward Lynch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vitalij Puchkov. Lynch manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Puchkov is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Puchkov has gone for a leg lock! Lynch slips out almost immediately though and dives into Puchkov's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lynch trying to control the position from guard on top but Puchkov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Puchkov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Puchkov seems keen to control Lynch's posture. Lynch throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Puchkov works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Lynch throws a strike but Puchkov rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Lynch striking off his back but it's not causing Puchkov any problems. Lynch wants to get back to his feet but Puchkov is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Puchkov wants to control from the top but Lynch keeps moving. Puchkov passes easily into side control. Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Puchkov is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lynch knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Lynch manages to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lynch is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Puchkov in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Lynch tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Puchkov!
