Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paez Paez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Araujo! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paez throws a low kick, looking for Araujo's leg but Araujo calmly moves out of range. Araujo shoots in and drives through. Paez sprawls well. Paez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Paez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Paez seems to be looking for submissions.
Araujo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Paez is working away from the top position though. Paez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Araujo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Paez. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Araujo regains full guard. Nicely done.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Araujo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Araujo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Araujo! Paez is looking for a sweep. Araujo gets to mount! Paez was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Paez is wriggling around trying to escape.
Paez is working hard here to advance position. Paez is squirming around, avoiding Araujo's attempts to control the action. Paez tries to lock up and control but Araujo gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Paez can't escape the position.
Araujo wants to control the pace but Paez is squirming around nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Araujo blocks Paez's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Paez really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Paez tries to improve his position but instead Araujo has taken his back! Paez is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Araujo trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Paez doesn't escape. Paez tries to break free.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Araujo is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Paez manages to reverse the position and now he's in Araujo's guard. Nice work there by Paez.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Araujo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Araujo has escaped and now he's on top!
Araujo is sitting in close to Paez's body. Paez has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Araujo is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Araujo is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Paez.
