Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pierre Ramon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mario Zambrana! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Daniel Blasius and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ramon blocks the body kick.
Zambrana pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ramon appears to be looking for a counter takedown. A head kick misses from Zambrana. Ramon appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Ramon checks a leg kick nicely. Mario Zambrana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Zambrana throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. A jab from Zambrana misses. Ramon feinted with a counter takedown. Zambrana throws a head kick but Ramon moves out of range.
Zambrana lands a big head kick that sends Ramon tumbling to the mat! Zambrana takes a step backwards and waves Ramon back to his feet - he wants the finish!
It looks like Pierre Ramon has been cut. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Zambrana has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Zambrana throws a head kick that misses. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ramon moves out of range of the body kick. A head kick misses from Zambrana. A head kick by Zambrana misses and Ramon decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Zambrana's guard. Ramon is looking to pass into half guard but Zambrana pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Zambrana is in guard. Ramon is adopting a defensive guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zambrana must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Ramon pushes a forearm under Zambrana's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Zambrana is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
