Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jesus Malverde! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Blue Kandle! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Reed Andrews and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kandle clinches up with Malverde and pushes him back against the cage. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Malverde creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Malverde doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Malverde working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Kandle looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Malverde is leaning against Kandle and scores with a nice uppercut to the body. Malverde lands on the inside with an uppercut. Good body shot from Malverde.
Kandle has a couple of punches blocked by Malverde.
Malverde working some nice short punches in the clinch. A battle for position here, against the cage. A frustrated look appears on Kandle's face as he tries to break the clinch. Malverde scores with a hook to the body. Malverde softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Malverde lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Malverde has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Malverde lands a left hand.
Malverde lands a right hand. Kandle tries a body shot but Malverde blocks it.
The referee is keeping an eye on Malverde - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Malverde has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Kandle regains guard immediately.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kandle being controlled here, momentarily. Malverde trying to control the position from guard on top but Kandle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Malverde wants to pass the guard but Kandle is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Malverde throwing strikes but missing. Kandle wants to stand up but Malverde is controlling him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Kandle being controlled here, momentarily. Malverde trying to control but Kandle is working from the bottom. Malverde showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. A right-left combo lands from Kandle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kandle throws a series of punches but Malverde moves out of range. Kandle is looking to clinch but Malverde is avoiding it.
Malverde feinted with a counter takedown. Kandle misses with a jab to the body
and Malverde counters with a body kick. Kandle tries to bum rush Malverde with a series of wild strikes but Malverde uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Kandle moves in looking to clinch but Malverde pushes him off. Kandle tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Blue Kandle is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Kandle fails to land with a series of punches.
Kandle misses with a few strikes there.
Kandle sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Kandle looks winded! Kandle chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Malverde can pounce on him.
Kandle is looking to clinch but Malverde is avoiding it.
Malverde changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Kandle tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Malverde counters with a good low kick that Kandle was not able to check. Malverde scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Malverde with a hook.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Malverde lands a nice looking body kick. Malverde lands a left and a right that send Kandle crashing to the mat, dazed. Malverde thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Kandle is rocked!
It looks like Blue Kandle has been cut. Malverde fails with a takedown attempt. Despite the aggression on Kandle's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Kandle is still on wobbly legs! Can Malverde finish him? Malverde changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kandle looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Kandle seems to have recovered his senses. Malverde takes a little break here. Kandle wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Malverde in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Kandle is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jesus Malverde! Jesus Malverde is the new welterweight champion! As Jesus Malverde got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: fuck Humours'.
