PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Zlo Zlo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rakhim Batirov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zlo Zlo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rakhim Batirov!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Valeri Chadov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zlo instigates a clinch.
Zlo scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Zlo prevents a takedown attempt there.

Zlo has clasped his hands together around Batirov's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Zlo creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Batirov sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Batirov pushes Zlo away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Zlo gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Batirov throws Zlo to one side and escapes!

Batirov gets caught flat footed, as Zlo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Zlo stops Batirov from standing up.
Zlo has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Batirov is proving hard to escape from.
Zlo passes Batirov's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Zlo is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Zlo looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Zlo wants to stand but Batirov has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Batirov is refusing to be controlled, as Zlo sits in half guard.

Zlo is working for a submission of some sort.

Zlo is trying to work for a kimura but Batirov is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Batirov wants to get back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Zlo working Batirov over with strikes.
Zlo slips a nice elbow through Batirov's hands, connecting with Batirov's forehead.
Zlo lands strikes from half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Zlo connects with a nice short shot to Batirov's temple.
Batirov is trying to stand up here but Zlo is controlling him well.

Zlo wants to work for an arm triangle but Batirov is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Batirov pushes Zlo off looking to stand but Zlo dives back in and keeps control.

Batirov has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Zlo is on him like a limpet, forcing Batirov back against the cage.
Zlo tries for a takedown. No joy.
Batirov is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Zlo pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Zlo prevents the takedown attempt.
Zlo Zlo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rakhim Batirov.
Batirov looks winded!

Zlo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Zlo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Batirov wants to get back to his feet but Zlo drags him back down.
Zlo lands an elbow.
Batirov is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Zlo asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zlo scoring with punches and elbows.
Zlo tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Batirov takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Zlo decides to stand back up. Zlo steps back and let's Batirov get back to his feet.
Rakhim Batirov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Zlo rushes Batirov and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Zlo is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Zlo is pressed up against the cage. Batirov has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Zlo down to the mat. Zlo avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Zlo is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Batirov's half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Well, if Zlo is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Batirov shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Zlo drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Zlo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Batirov can do to turn this around?
Batirov is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Zlo dives into side control.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Zlo scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Batirov to see if he's OK.

Zlo connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Batirov some visible discomfort.
Zlo Zlo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Zlo wants to control but Batirov is keeping him busy.

Batirov is squirming around, avoiding Zlo's attempts to control the action.

Batirov lands a couple of digs.
Batirov postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Zlo wants to sweep but no luck.

That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Batirov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Zlo pinned against the cage. Zlo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Zlo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Batirov keeps working.

Zlo cracks Batirov with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Zlo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Zlo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Batirov is trying to buck Zlo off.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Zlo lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Batirov tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Batirov is covering up but some of the strikes from Zlo are getting through and doing damage.

Batirov manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.

Zlo Zlo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rakhim Batirov.
Zlo wants to stand but Batirov is controlling his posture from full guard.
Zlo trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Zlo lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Batirov keeping moving, preventing Zlo from controlling successfully.
Batirov has momentary wrist control but Zlo slips an elbow through the middle.
Zlo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Zlo won't allow Batirov to get back to his feet.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Zlo Zlo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Zlo darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Batirov pushes Zlo off looking to stand but Zlo dives back in and keeps control.

Zlo Zlo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Zlo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
