The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ahdoodi tries to clinch but Asashoryu moves out of range.
Asashoryu moves out of range of the strikes.

Asashoryu moves away from the strike by Ahdoodi.
Asashoryu lands with a right hand.
It looks like Ahmaid Ahdoodi has been cut.
Ahdoodi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Asashoryu moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A head kick misses from Asashoryu.
Asashoryu uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ahdoodi.
Asashoryu connects with a high kick.
Asashoryu lands with a kick to the temple. Ahdoodi shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Ahdoodi scores with a punch to the head.

A clash of legs there as Asashoryu blocks the low kick.
Ahdoodi misses with an uppercut. Asashoryu saw that one coming.
Asashoryu lands with a thumping leg kick.
Ahdoodi throws a series of punches but Asashoryu moves out of range.

Ahdoodi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Asashoryu moves away.
Asashoryu dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Ahdoodi. That did some damage!
Ahdoodi shoots in and drives through. Asashoryu sprawls well.
Asashoryu lands a big head kick that sends Ahdoodi tumbling to the mat! Asashoryu takes a step backwards and waves Ahdoodi back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Ahdoodi misses with a double jab.
We've been hearing reports that Asashoryu has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Ahdoodi throws a jab when Asashoryu was well out of range.
Ahdoodi misses with a lunging right hand
and Asashoryu counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ahdoodi looks up at the clock. Bad move! Asashoryu lands a right hand from hell, dropping Ahdoodi. Asashoryu pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Yokozuna Asashoryu!
After the fight, Yokozuna Asashoryu was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
