The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saarelainen throws a shot to the body.
Saarelainen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Saarelainen has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Smiff thows a left - swing and a miss!
Smiff drives through with a takedown into guard.
Saarelainen looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Saarelainen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Smiff with a flurry of punches that miss.
Smiff has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smiff stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Saarelainen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Saarelainen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smiff gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Smiff pushes down on Saarelainen's leg and manages to get into half guard.
