Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Ferguson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerrod Higgens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jerrod Higgens!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Higgens listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Ferguson could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

and Ferguson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Higgens's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ferguson connects with a nice short shot to Higgens's temple.

Ferguson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Higgens on the ground.
Higgens has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ferguson is working away from the top position though.
Ferguson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Higgens with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Ferguson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Ferguson is looking for a kimura but Higgens is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ferguson to get the leverage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ferguson is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Ferguson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Ferguson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Higgens's guard now.
Kevin Ferguson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerrod Higgens.

Higgens looking for a guillotine here but Ferguson defends easily.
Ferguson wants to control from the top but Higgens keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Higgens had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Ferguson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Higgens Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Ferguson's back instead.

Higgens throws a low kick but it's checked well by Ferguson.

Higgens gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Ferguson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Higgens pushes a forearm under Ferguson's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Ferguson is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
