PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mike MIles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santiago Arias (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santiago Arias told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike MIles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Santiago Arias!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Radbod Blank and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

MIles looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Arias!
Arias can't do much from the bottom here.

MIles is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Arias knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

MIles tries for a kimura but Arias is defending well.
Arias tries to bench press MIles off him but MIles keeps the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

MIles is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Arias has escaped the position, nice work there.
Arias is looking to regain half guard here but MIles keeps moving and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

MIles is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Arias knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

MIles wants to control but Arias is keeping him busy.

MIles looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
MIles trying to control the action but Arias is working from the bottom.

MIles wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Arias, who protects the arm well.

MIles is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Arias has escaped the position, nice work there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Arias is trying to get back to half guard.

MIles swings around for an armbar but Arias sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into MIles's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now MIles is on top in guard.

MIles is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
MIles trying to control the position from guard on top but Arias is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

MIles is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Arias is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Arias has escaped and now he's on top!

MIles wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
MIles tries to land a sweep but no joy.
MIles looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
MIles is pulling down on Arias's head to control his posture.
We've been informed that Arias has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Arias trying to stand up but can't free himself from MIles's guard.
Arias wants to control from the top but MIles keeps moving.
Arias might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control MIles haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
MIles looking to hit a scissor sweep but Arias is one step ahead there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
MIles is adopting a defensive guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That was a close round but I would say that Mike MIles will probably get the nod.

Arias lands a nice leg kick that just misses MIles's sensitive parts.
MIles shoots in looking for a takedown. Arias tries to sprawl out of it but MIles keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Arias manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Arias scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Arias wants to stand but MIles is controlling his arm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
MIles is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Arias trying to control the position but MIles is working away.

Arias postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
MIles is trying to get back to half guard.
MIles trying his best to control but Arias has mounted him.
MIles is wriggling around trying to escape.
Arias wants to control the pace but MIles is squirming around nicely.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
MIles is working to get back to half guard.

Arias jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… MIles is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by MIles and Arias has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Arias tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

MIles gets back to half guard.
MIles is controlling Arias's trapped leg to prevent Arias from advancing to side control.
MIles trying to control but Arias postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Arias shoots in and bounces MIles off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
MIles keeping moving, preventing Arias from controlling successfully.

Arias trying to stand up but can't free himself from MIles's guard.
Arias trying to control the position from guard on top but MIles is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
MIles pulls Arias in close to prevent any damage.

Santiago Arias showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! MIles's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Arias shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

MIles has one foot on Arias's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
MIles looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Arias gets the takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
MIles is not content to let Arias control the position.
Arias misses with the ground and pound.
MIles tries to buck Arias off but Arias is having none of it.

MIles can't do much from the bottom here.
Arias wants to lay and pray for a moment but MIles keeps working.
Arias tries to stand but MIles is controlling his head.
Santiago Arias has got the better of the ground game so far.
Arias tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
MIles is trying to control Arias's posture but Arias avoids it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
MIles sneaks back into half guard.
Arias thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Arias tries to pass the half guard into mount. MIles knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Arias throws a right and a left that both miss.

Arias looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Arias trying to control but MIles is working from the bottom.
Arias loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Arias throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as MIles works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
MIles is controlling Arias's posture.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
MIles has a closed guard, preventing Arias from standing up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
MIles swats away the attempt to clinch by Arias.
MIles tries to counter by clinching up but Arias breaks away and moves out of range.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Arias.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
MIles struggling a bit here.

Santiago Arias comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Arias has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
