PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lincoln Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Maher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawk comes to the cage accompanied by Winner Takes It All. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lincoln Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Maher!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hawk shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Hawk is working for a submission of some sort.
Maher is trying to get back to full guard.
Hawk content to control rather than advance.

Maher is defending against the submission attempts here by Hawk.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hawk takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hawk looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Hawk is working hard here to advance position.
Hawk passes to side control.

Hawk looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Maher is trying to improve his position.
Maher is not content to let Hawk control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maher is looking to regain half guard here but Hawk keeps moving and retains side control.

Hawk thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Maher seems a little lost for a moment, as Hawk dominates the positioning.
Maher told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Maher is not content to let Hawk control the position.
Hawk takes a little break here. Maher wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Maher tries to improve position but can't.

Hawk tries for a kimura but Maher is defending well.
Hawk is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Maher will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Hawk looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Maher sneaks back into half guard.
Maher won't allow Hawk to pass to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Maher is not content to let Hawk control the position.
Hawk tries to pass the half guard into mount. Maher knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Hawk controlling the action here.
Hawk prevents Maher from improving his position.
Hawk is just content to waste time from the top position. Maher takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lincoln Hawk dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Maher wants to clinch up but Hawk keeps it at a distance.
Hawk changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Maher throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Maher takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Maher lands a nice looking body shot.
A head kick by Maher misses

and Hawk counters with a shoot takedown. Maher fights it but they end up in guard.
Hawk passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Hawk trying to control the action but Maher is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hawk is really struggling to control Maher but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Hawk tries for a kimura but Maher is defending well.
Maher is not content to let Hawk control the position.
You can see the frustration on Maher's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Maher trying to remain calm as Hawk controls from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hawk trying to control the action but Maher is working from the bottom.

Hawk is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Maher has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hawk controlling the position.
Hawk is looking to take a break and control but Maher is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hawk has hold of Maher's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Maher tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Hawk cranks the arm and Maher screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Maher, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Lincoln Hawk!
