Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
30 - 21 - 0, fighting out of London, Ray Mancine! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Marquan Weatherspoon! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mancine lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Mancine lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Weatherspoon tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Weatherspoon. Mancine looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Mancine winds up and cracks Weatherspoon with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Weatherspoon is not content to let Mancine control the position. Weatherspoon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Weatherspoon is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mancine pulls his head out easily. Mancine is trying to control the action in half guard but Weatherspoon is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Mancine working over Weatherspoon with some ground and pound. Weatherspoon looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
That's one minute gone in the round. Weatherspoon works his way to full guard. Good work. Mancine pushes down on Weatherspoon's leg and manages to get into half guard. Weatherspoon trying to hold on to Mancine's head to control him but Mancine postures up.
Mancine lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Weatherspoon on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Ground and pound from Mancine. Mancine winds up and cracks Weatherspoon with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Weatherspoon is defending against the submission attempts here by Mancine.
Mancine lands strikes from half guard.
Weatherspoon is rocked! We've been hearing that Mancine has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Weatherspoon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mancine. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Weatherspoon is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mancine pulls his head out easily. Mancine is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Weatherspoon! Weatherspoon is looking to improve his position but Mancine isn't that keen on the idea.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Weatherspoon is still trying to improve position. Mancine has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Mancine working Weatherspoon over with strikes here. Weatherspoon is still in real trouble! Can Mancine finish him? The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mancine is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Mancine!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Ray Mancine! Ray Mancine decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little. In defeat, Marquan Weatherspoon stepped up to the mic, saying 'A little setback is the setup for a major comeback!!'.
