PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Oleg Kravichenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jay Smith was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Oleg Kravichenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Smith!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kravichenko slips under a jab.
Kravichenko throws a hook but Smith blocks it.
Kravichenko takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
We've been told by Kravichenko's head coaches at Killer Instinct that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Kravichenko takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Smith throws a jab but it's blocked by Kravichenko.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Smith has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Kravichenko jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Kravichenko throws a hook but Smith avoids it easily.

and Smith counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Smith.
Kravichenko bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smith's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith wants to sweep but no luck.
Kravichenko slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Smith escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kravichenko gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Smith has his hands on Kravichenko's head, controlling the position.
Kravichenko is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Smith trying to strike off his back.
Smith trying to keep a closed guard but Kravichenko is proving a slippery customer.
Smith wants to stand and escape but Kravichenko is having none of it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Smith had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kravichenko defends it easily.
Kravichenko slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Smith looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kravichenko stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith is striking but Kravichenko is not phased and passes to half guard.
Smith is trying to get back to full guard.

Smith looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Kravichenko is taking a breather. Smith says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Smith is trying to get back to full guard.
Smith throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Smith wants to control the action here but instead Kravichenko manages to pass to full mount!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith wants to control but Kravichenko is having none of it.
Smith keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Smith tries to hold on but Kravichenko postures up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kravichenko's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oleg Kravichenko dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kravichenko rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Smith makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Kravichenko throws a right and a left that Smith avoids nicely.

Smith scores with a jab. Kravichenko acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Kravichenko throws a lazy right hand but Smith sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Kravichenko sets himself, and Smith steps forward looking for the clinch! Kravichenko avoids it this time.
Smith misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A telegraphed right hand from Kravichenko misses the target.
Nice defenses there by Smith.
A little jabbing left from Smith on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Smith on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kravichenko throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Smith counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Kravichenko throws a series of punches but Smith moves out of range.

Kravichenko throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Smith on the side of the head.

Kravichenko misses with a straight right.
A nice side step and Smith releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Smith is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Smith is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kravichenko defends it well.
Kravichenko is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Smith perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kravichenko manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Smith wants to stand but Kravichenko is controlling his posture from full guard.
Oleg Kravichenko overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Smith is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kravichenko has managed to free his arm - good work.

Kravichenko is looking to escape.
Kravichenko avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Smith.
Kravichenko is looking to control Smith's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kravichenko avoid being mounted?

Smith seems to be working for a kimura but Kravichenko defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Smith advances position into side control!
Kravichenko is looking for a sweep.
Kravichenko is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jay Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Smith uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kravichenko.

Kravichenko avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kravichenko went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Smith gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Kravichenko misses with a jab, cross combination.
Smith tries to counter with a clinch but Kravichenko shakes him off and moves away.
Oleg Kravichenko is winning the standup battle so far.

Smith now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Smith appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Smith throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Kravichenko throws a left jab followed by a right to the body, Oh Smith colapses and takes a barrage of punches from Kravichenko as he moves to mount! the ref stops the fight and Smith is left battered and dazed whilst Kravichenko and his camp cheer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Oleg Kravichenko!
During a confident post fight interview, Oleg Kravichenko thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
