PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Robin Estrada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Edmond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Robin Estrada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Daniel Edmond!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Edmond takes the fight into the clinch.
Stalling in the clinch from Estrada.
Estrada tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Edmond tightens his grip and picks Estrada up, before dumping him to the ground. Estrada manages to land in guard.
Estrada keeping moving, preventing Edmond from controlling successfully.
Edmond preventing the sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Edmond gets to his feet - Estrada follows without any prompting.

Estrada gets tackled into the cage by Edmond. Edmond maintains the clinch.
Estrada wants to take the fight to the mat but Edmond manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Edmond turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Edmond manages to end up in side control.
Estrada is trying to get back to half guard.
Edmond has control of an arm but Estrada manages to advance to Edmond's back!
I really don't envy Edmond right now.
Estrada really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Edmond.
Edmond wants to get back to his feet.
Edmond rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Well, if Estrada is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Estrada stalling away here and it's allowed Edmond to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Estrada accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Edmond keeping moving, preventing Estrada from controlling successfully.
Edmond doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Estrada trying to control but Edmond is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Estrada slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Edmond keeping moving, preventing Estrada from controlling successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Estrada really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Edmond looking for a guillotine here but Estrada defends easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Edmond is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Edmond throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Estrada shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Edmond as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robin Estrada. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Edmond swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Edmond lands with a good body shot.
Estrada lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Edmond dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Estrada drives through and clinches with Edmond against the cage.

Estrada jumps guard.
Edmond preventing the sweep.
Edmond connects with a couple of short punches.
Estrada lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Estrada has gone for a leg lock! Edmond slips out almost immediately though and dives into Estrada's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Estrada is striking but Edmond is not phased and passes to half guard.

Edmond decides to stand and escape the position.
Estrada doesn't manage to clinch there - Edmond circles away.
Estrada lands a really nice looking cross but Edmond seems unphased.
Estrada tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
It seemed like Edmond was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Edmond, right into the meat.

Estrada takes the fight into the clinch.

Edmond has hold of one of Estrada's legs. Estrada is fighting the takedown attempt but Edmond gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Edmond is pushing down on Estrada's leg trying to pass to half guard. Estrada is fighting to maintain full guard but Edmond has managed to sneak the leg through.
Estrada wants to get back to full guard.

Edmond is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Estrada is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Edmond pulls his head out easily.
Daniel Edmond has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Estrada trying to get back to full guard but Edmond takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Edmond looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Edmond trying to control but Estrada is having none of it.

Estrada is trying to reverse the position but instead Edmond has taken his back - oops!
Edmond is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Estrada. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Edmond biding his time, controlling Estrada.

Edmond is looking for the choke from the back position but Estrada is controlling his hands well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Can Estrada hold on?! Edmond is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Edmond showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Estrada tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Edmond paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Edmond is looking to clinch but Estrada is avoiding it.
Estrada wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Edmond slips a jab and a cross from Estrada.
Edmond tries a head kick but it misses.

Edmond gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Edmond is pressed up against the cage. Estrada has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Edmond down to the mat. Edmond avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Estrada jabs at Edmond's body.
Edmond has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Estrada tries to close the distance and clinch but Edmond swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Estrada keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Edmond.

Edmond clinches.
Estrada wants to take the fight to the mat but Edmond manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Edmond works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Edmond drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Estrada manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Edmond has Estrada in his guard.

Edmond wants to stand and escape but Estrada is having none of it.
Estrada trying to control the position from guard on top but Edmond is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Edmond not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Estrada will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Edmond is looking to stand up but Estrada isn't so interested in that idea.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Estrada postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Estrada prevents Edmond from getting back to his feet.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Estrada content to stall in guard here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Estrada is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Edmond's half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Edmond wants to stand back up but Estrada manages to pass into side control.
Edmond is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Estrada trying to control the position but Edmond is working away.
Edmond is letting Estrada control him for a moment.
Edmond wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Estrada is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Edmond will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Estrada prevents Edmond from escaping the position.
Edmond trying to remain calm as Estrada controls from the top position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Edmond is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Estrada taking a breather here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Edmond throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Estrada was covering up waiting for the punch and Edmond finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Estrada is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Edmond dives into side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Robin Estrada showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Edmond has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
