Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy Cathaway! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Franco! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Franco gets the takedown into side control. Cathaway tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Franco wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Franco working away. Franco controls the position. Franco decides to stand back up. Franco steps back and let's Cathaway get back to his feet. Franco pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Cathaway tries to counter with a takedown but Franco is quick to defend against it. Cathaway lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cathaway. A low kick from Cathaway is predictable there and Franco counters with a left and a right that stings Cathaway. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cathaway lands an overhand right. Franco misses with an uppercut
and Cathaway counters with a nice double leg into guard. Franco wants to get back to his feet but Cathaway passes into half guard.
Cathaway wants to work for an arm triangle but Franco is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round. Cathaway is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Franco! Franco really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cathaway. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cathaway thowing shots but they're missing. Franco tries to get back to half guard but can't. Cathaway has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Franco slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Cathaway tries to pass the half guard into mount. Franco knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Cathaway controlling the action here. Franco is trying to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cathaway sitting and controlling from the half guard. Cathaway continues to stall. Franco trying to control but Cathaway postures up.
Cathaway uses his free foot to push down on Franco's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Franco. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cathaway content just to control the position here. Franco tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Franco gets back to half guard. Franco is refusing to be controlled, as Cathaway sits in half guard. Cathaway wants to free his trapped foot but Franco is holding on for dear life with his legs. Franco is looking to improve his position.
Franco looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Cathaway seems to be working for a kimura but Franco defends the submission attempt. Cathaway trying to control the action but Franco is working from the bottom. Cathaway maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Franco could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Cathaway has cracked it and Franco is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Cathaway!
