PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leonidas Spartakos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cole has chosen Wonderfull Days as his entrance music. Leonidas Spartakos is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leonidas Spartakos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Cole!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Cole with that takedown attempt.
Spartakos is looking to clinch but Cole is avoiding it.
Cole throws a head kick that misses.

Spartakos pushes Cole up against the cage in a clinch.
Spartakos is trying to drag Cole to the mat but Cole just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Cole tries to pull guard but Spartakos holds him up against the cage and eventually Cole drops back down to his feet.
Cole fails to pull guard.
Leonidas Spartakos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Cole.

Spartakos is trying to trip Cole. He has hold of a leg but Cole is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Spartakos persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Spartakos wanted to stand there but Cole had control of the position.

Spartakos avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Cole lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Spartakos!

Spartakos's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Cole is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Spartakos has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Cole looking to secure an arm triangle but Spartakos defends it well.
Spartakos is trying to stand up.
Spartakos is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Cole looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Spartakos takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Cole stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Cole clinches but Spartakos breaks the clinch
and Spartakos counters with a nice body kick.
Spartakos circles away from the clinch attempt

and Spartakos counters by clinching up.
Spartakos fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Spartakos has picked Cole up - he's going for a ride! Spartakos dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cole is looking to improve his position.
Spartakos moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Cole.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cole sneaks out the side door and pushes Spartakos away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Cole tries to clinch up

and Spartakos moves into the clinch.
Spartakos is pressed up against the cage. Cole has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Spartakos down to the mat. Spartakos avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Spartakos takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Cole looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Spartakos feints and then cracks Cole's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Cole down.
Spartakos wants to clinch but Cole slips to the side
and Cole counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A shot to the body from Spartakos misses

and Cole counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cole tries to pass to full mount but Spartakos defends it.
Spartakos is trying to stand up here but Cole is controlling him well.

Cole is working for a kimura but Spartakos is defending it quite comfortably.
Cole passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Spartakos!
Spartakos is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Cole dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Cole decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cole seems to be working for a kimura but Spartakos defends the submission attempt.

Spartakos pushes Cole off and gets back to his feet.
Nice sprawl there from Spartakos as Cole shoots in.
Spartakos moves in looking to clinch but Cole pushes him off.
Spartakos gets cracked there but stands up to it.

and Cole counters by moving into the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Spartakos looking for a takedown.

Spartakos has hold of one of Cole's legs. Cole is fighting the takedown attempt but Spartakos gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Cole is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spartakos has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Cole is proving hard to escape from.

Cole is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Spartakos wants to stand but Cole has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Cole pulls Spartakos in close to prevent any damage.

Spartakos stands up and waves to Cole to follow him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cole shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Spartakos as he avoids it easily.
Leonidas Spartakos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Cole.
Cole shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Spartakos pinned against the cage. Spartakos gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Spartakos lands with a kick to the temple. Cole shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Some wild striking there from Spartakos.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cole.
Cole shoots in but Spartakos avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cole wants to clinch but Spartakos slips to the side
and Spartakos counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Spartakos jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Cole tries for a takedown but Spartakos sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Cole gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Spartakos counters with a stiff right hand.

Spartakos rushes Cole and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cole looking for a takedown.
Spartakos has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cole avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Spartakos jumps guard and drags Cole to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Spartakos knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cole on the ground.
Cole scoring with some ground and pound.
Spartakos wants to stand up but Cole is controlling him.
Spartakos keeping moving, preventing Cole from controlling successfully.

Cole slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Spartakos wants to get back to his feet but Cole drags him back down.
Cole working the head and body with strikes.
Spartakos is trying to get back to his feet.
Spartakos could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Cole tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Cole is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Spartakos is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Joe Cole has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sloppy strikes there by Cole.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Cole showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Cole fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Spartakos, pushing him back against the cage.
Spartakos tries to pull guard but Cole won't allow it.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Cole.

Spartakos ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Spartakos no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Cole won't allow Spartakos to get back to his feet.
Cole wants to control from the top but Spartakos keeps moving.
Cole slips nicely into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cole connects with a nice short shot to Spartakos's temple.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Spartakos tries to kick Cole off but Cole keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cole is looking to take a break and control but Spartakos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cole working Spartakos over with strikes.
Spartakos tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Cole manages to move to mount!
Cole trying to control but Spartakos is having none of it.

Cole is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Spartakos is forced to tap! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joe Cole!
