1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vernon Russell! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Jorge Garcia and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Russell shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Russell showed some decent athleticism there. Russell prevents Drakov from improving his position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The fighters are battling for position here. Drakov manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Drakov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Russell defends well. Russell must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Drakov preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Drakov looking to sweep here. No luck so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Drakov has his hands on Russell's head, controlling the position. Drakov is looking for a triangle but Russell pushes his legs off easily.

That's one minute gone in the round. Drakov keeping moving, preventing Russell from controlling successfully. We've been hearing good reports from Drakov's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Russell won't allow Drakov to sweep him here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Drakov keeping moving, preventing Russell from controlling successfully. Drakov looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Russell passes into side control.

Russell looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Drakov has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Russell escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Russell! Drakov sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Drakov moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Drakov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Russell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Russell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Drakov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Russell controls the pace. Drakov keeping moving, preventing Russell from controlling successfully. Drakov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Russell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Drakov keeping moving, preventing Russell from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vasilli Drakov dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Drakov shoots in looking for a takedown but Russell manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Drakov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Russell gets tackled into the cage by Drakov. Drakov maintains the clinch. Drakov decides to pull guard. Russell has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Drakov to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Russell is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Drakov pulls down on the head and he's put Russell to sleep! This one is all over!
