Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Stevenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ko Maeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ricky Stevenson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ko Maeda!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Sano and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stevenson rushes Maeda and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Maeda wanted to stand there but Stevenson had control of the position.
Stevenson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Maeda's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Maeda on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Stevenson. Stevenson obviously looking to wear him down.

Stevenson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Maeda pulls his leg out and moves away.

Maeda moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Maeda stuffs the takedown.
Stevenson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ricky Stevenson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stevenson shoots in and drives through. Maeda sprawls well.
Maeda throws a right hand that Stevenson ducks under and follows up with a left that Stevenson also avoids with ease.
Maeda swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Maeda looks for the body kick but Stevenson saw that one coming.
Stevenson shoots for a double leg takedown but Maeda sprawls well. He's pushed Stevenson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Maeda fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Stevenson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Maeda as he avoids it easily.

Maeda throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Stevenson sees it coming and avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stevenson trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Maeda manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Maeda wants to get up but he can't break Stevenson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Stevenson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Maeda doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Maeda manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Maeda wanted to stand there but Stevenson had control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stevenson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Stevenson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Maeda's guard.

Stevenson has gone for a leg lock! Maeda slips out almost immediately though and dives into Stevenson's guard.

Stevenson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Maeda is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Stevenson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Maeda's back instead.

Stevenson is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Maeda defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Stevenson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Maeda is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Maeda has escaped and now he's on top!

Maeda moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Stevenson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Maeda is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Stevenson is controlling him.
Ricky Stevenson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Stevenson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Stevenson passes Maeda's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Stevenson is trying to control. Maeda wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Stevenson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Maeda is just riding it out for now. Stevenson eventually gives up the hold.
Stevenson wants to take a breather but Maeda is having none of it.
Maeda pushes Stevenson off looking to stand but Stevenson dives back in and keeps control.

Stevenson is working for a submission of some sort.

Maeda manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Ricky Stevenson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Maeda looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Maeda fails with the takedown

and Stevenson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Maeda's guard now.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stevenson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
