Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bjarni Avalon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hayato Yoshimura! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yoshimura shoots for a takedown but Avalon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Yoshimura stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Yoshimura wants it to stay on the feet. Avalon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Yoshimura sprawls well. Yoshimura wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Avalon gets slowly back to his feet. Avalon has managed to clinch.
Yoshimura tries for a takedown. No joy.
Avalon jumps guard and drags Yoshimura to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Avalon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Avalon slows the pace down in half guard. Yoshimura is trying to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yoshimura avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Avalon. Avalon frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Avalon throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Yoshimura because Avalon loaded up on that one. Avalon controlling from the full mount. Avalon seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Yoshimura for as long as he can get away with. Yoshimura really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Avalon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Avalon lands a big shot there that rocks Yoshimura but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Avalon looking for a guillotine from mount but Yoshimura is having none of it. Yoshimura has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever. Yoshimura tries to roll but Avalon sticks to his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Avalon is riding his opponent, not letting Yoshimura buck him off. Avalon looking for the choke from the back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Avalon controlling the position well here. Yoshimura rolled but Avalon kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Avalon is persistently looking for the submission but Yoshimura is defending it well.

Avalon is trying hard to land a takedown here. Yoshimura sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Yoshimura replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Avalon blocks it well. Yoshimura throws a series of punches but Avalon avoids them all with ease. Avalon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Yoshimura circles away. Yoshimura fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Avalon avoids it really well and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avalon punishes Yoshimura's body with a nice straight punch. Avalon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Yoshimura circles away quickly and effectively. Yoshimura goes for a double leg but Avalon avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Avalon continues to drive forward. Avalon tries for a takedown but Yoshimura sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Avalon fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Yoshimura, pushing him back against the cage. Avalon tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Yoshimura checks a leg kick. Bjarni Avalon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Avalon has closed the distance and engaged Yoshimura in a clinch.
Avalon decides to pull guard. Avalon lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Yoshimura can do anything to dispel that myth. Yoshimura is breathing heavily. Yoshimura looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Avalon has picked Yoshimura up and slammed him! Yoshimura can't keep hold of the triangle and Avalon manages to pass to side control! Bjarni Avalon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. This has been an exciting period of action! Avalon is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Yoshimura's shoulder. That is not cool. Avalon stands up. Avalon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Avalon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yoshimura tries to avoid it but Avalon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yoshimura to the ground. Yoshimura escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Yoshimura swats away the attempt to clinch by Avalon. Avalon fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Yoshimura avoids it really well and circles away. A head kick misses from Avalon. Avalon throws a sloppy head kick and Yoshimura moves out of range easily. Yoshimura stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Yoshimura wants it to stay on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Yoshimura shoots in for a takedown but Avalon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Avalon tries to clinch but Yoshimura moves out of range. Yoshimura tries to keep at a distance but Avalon has taken the fight into the clinch. Avalon tries to circle away but Yoshimura has him pinned against the cage. Yoshimura using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Yoshimura decides to pull guard. Yoshimura being controlled here, momentarily. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bjarni Avalon dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Yoshimura keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Nice takedown defense from Yoshimura. No joy for Avalon on that attempt. Avalon backing away here, and Yoshimura unleashes a leg kick that just misses. Avalon leaves Yoshimura with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Yoshimura tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. That's two minutes gone in the round. Yoshimura working a defensive guard but Avalon manages to pass into side control anyway.
Avalon in side control, just content to control the action for now. Avalon has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Yoshimura! Yoshimura takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Avalon lands a heavy elbow. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Avalon stands up from mount. Strange move. Avalon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. As Avalon backs off Yoshimura throws a huge counter combo but Avalon manages to avoid it all. Avalon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Yoshimura can do to turn this around? Yoshimura tries to score a power double leg takedown but Avalon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yoshimura somewhat. Avalon gets a clinch. Yoshimura breaks the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Avalon shoots for a double leg takedown but Yoshimura sprawls well. He's pushed Avalon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Yoshimura looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it. Avalon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Yoshimura but Yoshimura pushes him off and we're back to square one. Yoshimura tries to clinch up and Avalon counters with a series of strikes. Yoshimura will be more careful next time no doubt. Avalon blocks a low kick nicely. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Avalon shoots for a takedown but Yoshimura saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. A countering left hand to the body from Yoshimura misses. Avalon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yoshimura tries to avoid it but Avalon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yoshimura to the ground. Yoshimura escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Hayato Yoshimura has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Bjarni Avalon is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Avalon shoots in for a takedown but Yoshimura shows good takedown defense.
And that's the end of the fight! Bjarni Avalon showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Avalon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
