Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ed Ruth! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Donald Evans! The judges for this bout are James Glass, William Gold and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Good shot there by Evans. Ruth walks into a jab. Evans slips under a jab from Ruth. Ruth misses with a few strikes there.
Donald Evans seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ruth takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Evans turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Ruth fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Evans let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. The crowd cheers as Evans lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ruth doesn't seem phased though. A telegraphed right hand from Evans misses the target. A swing and a miss from Evans. Evans misses with a looping left. Ruth swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Evans leaves Ruth with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Evans! But no joy. Evans throws a jab when Ruth was well out of range. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Evans loads up on a big right hand but Ruth slips the punch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Evans works the jab nicely. Ruth on the wrong end of a nice jab. Evans feints and then cracks Ruth's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Ruth down. Evans lands a nice hook to Ruth's body. Ruth takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. A swing and a miss from Evans. Evans connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Ruth misses with a hook. Evans ducked under it nicely. Ruth bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Evans throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Donald Evans is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ruth throws a nice looking combination but Evans bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Evans bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Ruth's head. Evans cracks Ruth with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Evans throws a quick inside leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Evans waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ruth. A big right from Evans misses. Evans connects with a looping right hand.

and Ruth counters with a stiff right hand. Evans cracks Ruth with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Ruth takes a body punch but keeps moving. Evans throws a hook to the side of Ruth's head but Ruth sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Evans throws a jab when Ruth was well out of range. Evans has Ruth up against the cage in a clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Ruth as Evans tries to tie him up. I was talking to Ruth's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Ruth is trying to drag Evans to the mat but Evans just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Ruth manages to break the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Evans misses with a hook. Ruth ducked under it nicely. Ruth was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. The fight stays on the outside here - Evans looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Ruth takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Evans throws a jab when Ruth was well out of range. Nice uppercut lands for Evans. That snapped Ruth's head back.

and Ruth counters with a stiff right hand. Evans lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Evans walks into a straight right hand from Ruth. Evans is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Ruth had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Evans throws a combination that misses and Ruth counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Evans thinking. Evans lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

and Ruth counters with a lovely straight right hand! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Evans throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Ruth counters with a nice uppercut. Evans scores with a hook to the body. Ruth takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Evans connects with a single shot there. A left lands for Evans. Ruth misses with a left hand and Evans counters with a straight right hand. Evans misses with an uppercut
and Ruth cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. A big left from Evans misses. Evans rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Ruth cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Evans swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. It looked like Ruth wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Ruth defending well as Evans loads up on a big left hand. Ruth ducks under a wild hook from Evans. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Donald Evans dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Evans tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Ruth counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Evans digs a good hook to Ruth's body.
Evans fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Ruth. Evans has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Ruth throws the left hand but Evans avoids the punch easily. Evans lands a really nice looking cross but Ruth seems unphased.
A jab lands there for Evans. The fighters circling - Evans throws out the jab but it was never going to land. It looked like Ruth was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Evans. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Evans tries to clinch up and Ruth counters with a straight right hand. Ruth throws an overhand right that lands on Evans's shoulder, as Evans tries to avoid the shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Evans scores with a punch to the head. Evans misses with a straight left. Evans cracks a nice hook into Ruth's ribs. Evans stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Ruth is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Evans throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ruth sees it coming and avoids it easily. Evans misses with an uppercut
and Ruth counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Our spies down at at FIERCE inform us that Evans has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Evans has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ruth off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Evans slips a straight right by Ruth. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Evans is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Evans looks to land a left hand but Ruth moved out of range nicely. Ruth looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. A chopping leg kick lands by Evans. Donald Evans seems to be getting the better of the standup.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice uppercut there from Evans. Evans misses with a straight right. Ruth looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Ruth lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Evans circles away quickly and effectively. Evans scores with a jab to the head.

Evans cracks Ruth with an open hand slap. Evans's corner calls for a 1-2. Evans obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Evans lands a lovely overhand right. Evans looks to throw the jab but Ruth is out of range. Ruth rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Evans counters with a stiff right hand. A decent looking cross lands there for Evans.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Evans lands with a straight right. Ruth didn't see that one coming. Ruth avoids the body shot from Evans.
Evans fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ruth, pushing him back against the cage. Evans misses with some punches.

Evans scores with a shoulder strike. Ruth is looking to take this one to the mat. Evans escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Ruth is rocked! Evans drops Ruth with a naaaaasty hook - Ruth is in real trouble here! Evans dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!
