PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hugo Wolf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Canadian Hero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hugo Wolf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Canadian Hero!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wolf gets a clinch.
Wolf is trying to drag Hero to the mat but Hero just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Hero swings wildly with an uppercut but Wolf uses good head movement to avoid it.
Wolf is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Hero working aggressively here.
Hero is pressed up against the cage. Wolf has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hero down to the mat. Hero avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hugo Wolf. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hero rushes Wolf and presses him up against the cage.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Wolf.
Wolf has Hero pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hero manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Wolf blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Hero swings away with an uppercut that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wolf drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hero gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hero misses with a hook from the clinch.
I was talking to Wolf's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Hero swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Hero misses with some punches.
Wolf tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

A head punch on the inside from Hero fails to land.
Wolf blocking some punches.
Wolf is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Hero lands a right hand that snaps the head of Wolf backwards.
Wolf wants to take the fight to the mat but Hero manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Hero lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Wolf backwards.
Hero misses with some punches.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Wolf.
Hero misses with a short punch on the inside.
Hero tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Hero throws a head punch that misses.
Hero gets underhooks to prevent Wolf's takedown attempt.
Wolf is looking for a takedown.

Wolf lands a takedown into guard.
Wolf connects with a couple of short punches.
Hero looking for a sweep. Not yet Hero, not yet.
Hero doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Wolf working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hero throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wolf is working Hero over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Hero is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Wolf postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Hero doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Wolf lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Wolf postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wolf scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Wolf with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Hero throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Wolf working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hero's head.
Wolf chips away with some ground and pound.


Hero is rocked!
Hero has momentary wrist control but Wolf slips an elbow through the middle.
Hero is still in real trouble! Can Wolf finish him?
Wolf loads up on a big left hand. Hero felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Wolf looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Hero can't hide his disappointment, as Wolf celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hugo Wolf!
An out of breath Hugo Wolf thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
