Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carter Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cian Cartwright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carter Martin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cian Cartwright! The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Francis DeMontford and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martin swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cartwright counters with a shoot takedown. Martin fights it but they end up in guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cartwright accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Cartwright loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cartwright content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Martin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Martin manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Cartwright taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Martin is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Cartwright is keeping busy. Martin misses with a punch on the inside.
Cartwright is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Martin to keep the fight standing. Cartwright tries to pull guard but Martin holds him up against the cage and eventually Cartwright drops back down to his feet.
Cartwright is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Cartwright jumps guard but Martin turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Cartwright has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Carter Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cian Cartwright. Cartwright has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Martin after a bit of a struggle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martin tightens his grip and picks Cartwright up, before dumping him to the ground. Cartwright manages to land in guard. Martin stands up over Cartwright, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Cartwright has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Cartwright is looking for a triangle here but Martin uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Cartwright throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Cartwright tries to strike from the bottom but misses. Martin lands a nice forearm strike. Cartwright gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Cartwright is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Cartwright landing rabbit punches to the side of Martin's head. Not doing much damage but still scoring a few points. Martin working over Cartwright with some ground and pound. Cartwright looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Cartwright is pressing down on Martin's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Martin distracts Cartwright with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Cartwright is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Martin defends well. Cartwright is looking for a triangle but Martin pushes his legs off easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martin works over Cartwright with some ground and pound from guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This has been an exciting period of action! Cartwright has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Martin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Martin landing with the ground and pound. Cartwright had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Martin defends it easily. Martin stands up over Cartwright, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Cartwright is rocked! Martin arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Cartwright's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Carter Martin! Carter Martin decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
