Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Djimon Babayega! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Leonid Bondarenko! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bondarenko goes for a double leg but Babayega avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Babayega continues to drive forward. Bondarenko shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Babayega counters with a straight right hand. Bondarenko with a lazy takedown attempt and Babayega counters with a stiff right hand. Djimon Babayega has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leonid Bondarenko. Bondarenko doesn't succeed with the takedown and Babayega counters with a nice right hand that sends Bondarenko toppling to the canvas! Bondarenko scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Babayega finish him?!
Bondarenko is rocked! Bondarenko gets tackled into the cage by Babayega. Babayega maintains the clinch. Bondarenko is still on wobbly legs! Can Babayega finish him? Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A short right from Babayega on the inside. Bondarenko is looking for a takedown. Babayega scores with a nice hook to the head. Babayega works on Bondarenko's body with a couple of short punches. Bondarenko looks winded! Babayega creates some distance for himself and unleashes a massive uppercut that sends Bondarenko's eyes rolling into the back of his head! Bondarenko drops to his knees and Babayega pours it on with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Djimon Babayega! A less than humble Djimon Babayega misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
