PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stevie West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Showtime (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Showtime has chosen Old Toms Hut as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rick Showtime is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Stevie West!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 36 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rick Showtime!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Showtime changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. West looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Showtime tries to move into full mount but can't pass West's legs.
West wants to control but Showtime postures up.
West is trying to improve his position.
West is trying to control Showtime's posture but Showtime avoids it.
West tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Showtime wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Showtime decides to stand back up. Showtime steps back and let's West get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
West misses with a low kick.
Showtime is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Showtime fails to land with a series of punches.
Good standup being displayed there by West as he connects with a hook.
West throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
And Showtime tries to counter it with a takedown but West pushes his down on his head and steps out.

West shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Showtime is trying to defend but West finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Showtime wants to stand back up but West manages to pass into side control.

Showtime tries to escape but West is in control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
You can see the frustration on Showtime's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Showtime felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Showtime is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on West's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Showtime is looking to improve his position.

West looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
West wants to take a breather but Showtime is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Showtime stuns West with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Showtime gets a clinch.
West fails to pull guard.

West escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Showtime slaps away a takedown attempt from West, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Showtime wants to counter with a clinch but West pushes him away.

Showtime closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Showtime lands in his opponent's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Showtime gets to his feet - West follows without any prompting.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Showtime dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


West moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
West lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
A jab from Showtime finds it's way through West's defenses.

Showtime closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Showtime decides to stand back up. Showtime steps back and let's West get back to his feet.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
West manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Showtime manages to get himself to full guard.

West is looking to work some ground and pound but Showtime has wrist control.

Showtime wants to hit a switch here but West passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Showtime there!

West lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

West is stalling here but it's allowed Showtime to get half guard.
Showtime moves into full guard.

Showtime keeping moving, preventing West from controlling successfully.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Showtime is on top in guard.

Showtime tries to stand but West is controlling from the bottom.
West looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Showtime seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Let's hope that Showtime has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
West looking to hit a scissor sweep but Showtime is one step ahead there.
Showtime trying to control but West is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Showtime trying to stand up but can't free himself from West's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Showtime really doesn't want to stay on the ground with West. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

West is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Showtime defends well.

Showtime avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
West is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Showtime fails with a takedown attempt.
West changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Stevie West will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


The fight stays on the outside here - Showtime looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
West gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Showtime counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Showtime tries to close the distance and clinch but West swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

West shoots for a takedown but Showtime saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Showtime has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. West is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Showtime ducks down and throws a hook to the body but West moves away.

Showtime throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Nice straight punches there by Showtime. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Showtime.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rick Showtime comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Showtime has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
